Corporate Strategy Business Analyst

DTE Energy is seeking ambitious, energetic, quantitatively adept individuals with an interest in a high visibility, strategic role to participate in a summer internship program with the Corporate Strategy team. The Corporate Strategy group works with all of DTE’s business units to address the complex challenges facing the energy industry today. As a business analyst intern, candidates will have the opportunity to contribute to multi-disciplinary teams engaged in strategic initiatives.

  • Sample projects that the group has led in the last two years include:
  • Understanding industry trends and their implications for DTE, e.g., assessing the impact of new technologies, such as distributed energy resources, on the company’s operations and bottom line
  • Developing and executing the company’s electric vehicle strategy, customer outreach, and regulatory engagement
  • Managing the design and implementation of a home energy automation pilot for customers, utilizing the DTE Insight platform
  • Leading analytics to identify improvement opportunities for low income customer’s rates and programs
  • Establishing a longer-term view on electricity pricing and rates, then translating this view into a strategy for the company to execute
  • Facilitating senior management’s strategic planning process, e.g., preparing annual discussion materials for the board of directors

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Qualified candidates must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree (preferably from a top-tier university and in a quantitative field, such as engineering, economics, finance, etc.), with an expected graduation date between winter 2020 and summer 2021.  Some professional experience demonstrated through internships, collaborative research projects, etc. is preferred, along with the following demonstrated skills and personal characteristics:

  • Strong quantitative and modeling capabilities
  • Ability to communicate results effectively
  • Aptitude for and an interest in strategic thinking and analysis
  • High level of integrity, accountability, confidence, ability to get agreement/buy-in, and a team-oriented work ethic
  • Exposure to the energy industry a plus
