Job Summary

Applies knowledge of engineering principles and practices in area of assignments. Make decisions on engineering problems and methods with supervisory review. Requires the use of techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of own field and related sciences or disciplines, including practical field experience. Consults higher-level engineers or Supervisor concerning unusual problems and developments. May guide or coordinate the work of associate engineers.

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Perform geotechnical analysis and study to assess construction site condition
  • Plan and oversee geotechnical exploration
  • Plan field and environmental investigations for construction projects
  • Analyze geotechnical findings, perform appropriate calculations and prepare or review data reports
  • Develop proposals and determine cost and schedule for investigations
  • Provide direction to technical team in field inspection activities
  • Interact with customers and team members to complete assigned projects on schedule
  • Evaluate team performance and determine training needs to meet performance objectives
  • Assist project team in construction design and evaluation
  • Review and approve geotechnical designs developed by outside consultants
  • Review construction design proposals and approve geotechnical aspects
  • Review and assess new technology, materials and equipment
  • Frame engineering/operational problems and propose solutions
  • Monitor and support engineering related activities as related to field construction projects
  • Must be able to make sound engineering decisions under limited time constraints
  • Prepare written procedures to facilitate construction, maintenance and operation of gas transmission and gathering systems
  • Contribute to the development of project schedules and budgets
  • Plan and develop scope of work documents for pipeline and well pad earth slide remediation
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement (CI) training and apply CI tools and methodologies to improve output of job assignments and work processes

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in Engineering and at least 3-7 years of job related experience is required. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, and meet company-driving standards to provide for the following:

  • Gathering and transmission pipeline design experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of pipeline routing
  • Working knowledge of horizontal directional drilling
  • Working knowledge of earth slide remediation methods
  • Professional Engineer registration is desired
  • Proficiency in computer applications applicable to specific work field/discipline including Excel, Word, and Access database, ArcGIS, AutoCAD Civil or other widely used geotechnical analysis & design software, and numerical analysis & modeling software
  • Ability to interpret blueprints/drawings/schematics and other design documents
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with people at all levels both within and outside the company
  • Effective in self-management of time with a demonstrated personal commitment to work

The employee in this classification will be required to frequently lift objects of up to 10 pounds in weight. Occasionally the employee will have to lift/move objects of up to 25 pounds in weight. Vision requirements for this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works both in a business office setting and at a project site. In the course of working at the project site, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, including cold/hot, wet and/or humid conditions, and may work near moving mechanical parts and/or machinery. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration (see physical requirements above). The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in the office, but may become loud at the project site.
