Job Summary

  • Incumbents lead large multifaceted projects, and/or perform quality, business process improvement, or customer satisfaction-related analytical initiatives. Responsible for planning, monitoring and managing projects (which may include cross-functional project teams) from initiation through completion, ensuring on-time completion according to specifications and within budget. May be responsible for programs establishing and maintaining quality standards of existing products and services, as well as developing programs to focus employees on quality improvement. Develops sustainable, repeatable and quantifiable business process improvements. May specialize in one or more of the following areas: benchmarking, business process analysis and reengineering, change management and mea-surement, process-driven systems requirements. May mentor, provide guidance and direction to less experienced staff, including the provision of input in performance evaluations, but is not responsible for supervising anyone. Incumbents are typically working toward, or have achieved certification in the project or quality management disciplines, and are focused on disciplines other than IT, engineering or construction. Span of control = 0; this is an individual contributor job.

Key Accountabilities

  • May develop policies, procedures and methods to check service, product, material, components and/or operational quality, and improve same.
  • Researches best business practices within and outside the business unit/organization to establish or refine benchmark data.
  • Collects and analyzes process data to initiate, develop and recommend business practices and procedures that focus on increased productivity, reduced cost, or enhancements in service or business unit outputs.
  • Analyzes and measures the effectiveness of existing business processes.
  • Determines how new information technologies could support reengineering business processes.
  • Lead projects and/or project teams (including assigning work, reviewing progress, evaluating results, maintaining project work plans, and managing budgets).
  • Performs analytical work with regard to quality and business improvement initiatives.
  • Works with business unit personnel in documenting business needs and supporting business cases on large-scale initiatives.
  • Develops and conducts presentations to a wide spectrum of audiences (including senior-level business unit or Corporate management) pertaining to project, quality, business process im-provement or customer satisfaction issues.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • This is a dual-track base requirement job; education & experience requirements can be satisfied through one of the following options:
    • Associate degree in business, information, engineering, or quality systems technology, or a related discipline, and 8+ years of project or quality management experience, including senior or lead level responsibilities
    • Bachelor's degree in business or public administration; mathematics; economics; information, engineering, or quality systems technology, or; a related discipline, & 5+ years of project or quality management experience, including senior or lead level responsibilities

Other Qualifications


  • Post-graduate level coursework in a related discipline
  • Certification in the project or quality management disciplines

  • Proficiency in business unitrelevant software applications sufficient to apply/support them with minimal instruction or guidance
  • Written and verbal communication & advocacy skills consistent with the ability to present results of projects & research to senior & executive-level Corporate management.
  • Analytical & problemsolving skills consistent with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives, and recommend optimal solutions for various situations.
  • Ability to develop / coordinate crossfunctional work groups and projects, yielding optimal outcomes.
  • Ability to analyze complex quantitative data & develop optimal recommendations & solutions.
  • Ability to conduct effective & efficient meetings; manages meetings with optimal results.
  • Flexibility & the ability to work with shifting priorities; embrace new/evolving responsibilities.

  • Well-developed organization and planning skills (typically acquired through at least 5 years of experience).
  • Ability to apply project planning & implementation and/or continuous improvement principles (typically acquired through several years of experience in these areas) to affect tangible, positive outcomes.
  • Promotes an atmosphere conducive to the open exchange of new ideas, and alternatives to orthodox approaches.
  • Deals effectively with resistance; takes positive steps to avoid the recurrence of errors through constructive critique
