Job Summary

Applies complex knowledge of engineering and geological principles to plan, design, construct and maintain gas storage integrity, capacity and deliverability for meeting market demands and storage regulations.  Makes decisions independently, utilizing advanced techniques and the modification and extension of current theories and practices to resolve unique and complex technical issues.  Applies diversified knowledge to determine gas reserves, production forecasting and facility requirements to enhance and/or protect corporate cash flow, earnings and regulatory compliance.  Extensive computer modeling is utilized to obtain results for the preceding responsibilities. Span of control: 0; individual contributor.

Key Accountabilities

  • Maintains storage field and well deliverability to meet peak day requirements, many times under immediate time constraints, using economically driven maintenance and enhancement methods
  • Handles storage field design for both current and future project investments
  • Performs advanced well and reservoir performance simulations
  • Interprets corrosion and related logs of required remedial work to proactively prevent well leaks
  • Conducts advanced reserve and flowrate forecasts for use in projects
  • Ensures integrated well capability and gathering pipeline design for cost minimization
  • Performs financial analysis of technical alternatives, including cost-of-service and cost/benefit analysis
  • Provides on-site work direction during stimulation, workovers and/or well drilling or plugging
  • Coordinates inventory verification and well integrity preservation processes

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Petroleum or Geological Engineering or related discipline and five years of related field experience in industrial or utility industry

Other Qualifications

Preferred:
•    At least 5 years working experience as petroleum engineer with an operating-sector company.

•    Demonstrated experience and knowledge of logging, workovers, well drilling and plugging operations.

•    Demonstrated experience in gas reserves analysis or storage inventory verification, gas well deliverability assessments, well integrity analysis, risk assessment and working with regulators to permit well activity or maintain compliance.

•    Strong communications skills required with experience presenting to upper management.

•    Must have ability to work independently within a team structure to achieve corporate objectives.

Other Requirements:
•    Extensive understanding of office software and applications (e.g., Excel, Word, etc.) 
•    Knowledge of reservoir engineering/geological software and database management
•    Advanced knowledge of gas-storage deliverability mechanisms, transient flow test analyses, stimulation techniques, inventory analysis, and well and reservoir integrity analysis
•    Advanced knowledge of production drive mechanisms and oil- and gas-in-place determination techniques
•    Ability to use Nodal analysis methods to provide rate and pressure forecasts to the plant inlet
•    Experience in the selection of vendors for services and materials, inclusive of completing or coordinating material procurement, landowner contacts, and state filings
•    Ability to coordinate field and office projects (with both internal employees and external contractors) for drilling, testing, maintenance and stimulation of storage wells
•    Maintains reservoir department records and equipment, tracks inventory, and disposes of surplus equipment as required
•    Experienced in technical paper preparation and presentation of testimony as an expert witness
•    Ability to develop and manage budgets
•    Ability to work with people at all levels both within and outside the company
•    Ability to make clear and concise presentations to all levels of management
•    Possesses a valid driver’s license and ability to provide a suitable vehicle for use on company business and meet company driving standards
