Students & Graduates
If you are an undergraduate or graduate student, DTE Energy offers hands-on, real work experiences to enrich your academics and prepare you for a possible career in energy. We provide different types of student roles depending on academic interest and business need. Opportunities include: co-ops for both undergraduate and graduate students, summer internships for plant/field and professional roles, plus three programs for students pursuing an advanced degree or a master’s degree in business administration.

Co-Op Program
Students can work full or part-time during three terms per year — winter term (January - May), summer term (May - September) and fall term (September - December). Students typically work two or three terms at DTE Energy prior to graduation.
We are looking for energetic, self-driven students pursuing degrees in a wide variety of areas, including, but not limited to:
- Business Administration
- Business Analytics
- Computer Science
- Construction Management
- Data Science
- Engineering (all disciplines)
- Geographic Information Systems
- Human Resources
- Information Technology
- Marketing and Communications
- Environmental Science
Summer Students
Our Summer Student Program provides full-time, summer-only employment opportunities for undergraduates, graduate students or high school seniors preparing to attend college. Students typically start in May or June and finish their assignments in August. Students can view the upcoming Summer Student Program opportunities and apply from December to February. Students would begin work in May/June.
Graduate Students
We offer students pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree opportunities to receive on-the-job training in our Power & Industrial Associate Program and Corporate Strategy & Finance Leadership Development Program.
These two programs help future MBA graduates hone their analytical, communication, problem solving, continuous improvement and project management skills. MBA candidates will work on high-profile projects, receive formal/informal training and gain exposure to different DTE Energy organizations.
Our Operations Leadership Rotational Program gives you valuable energy industry experience leading high-profile process improvement initiatives in our gas, electric distribution or fossil generation businesses over the course of three years at one of our DTE Energy locations.
Those who successfully complete one of these programs could have the opportunity to continue their career at DTE Energy based on their interests and company needs.
Eligibility
Candidates must be considered a student by their school while working for us. College students who have graduated or will be graduating prior to starting one of our programs are not considered eligible for employment. Eligibility requirements are as follows:
- Students must be 18 years of age by the program’s start date.
- Students must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average.
- Students in our summer program must have a minimum 2.0 grade point average.
- Students must be enrolled in college or provide an acceptance letter to college for the fall semester of that year.
- College students must provide an official transcript.
- Students required to drive for their selected program must have a valid driver’s license or reliable transportation, plus a clean driving record.
Preference will be given to students with college experience.
