DTE Biomass Energy (DTEBE) develops, owns and operates renewable energy projects throughout the United States.  Our company converts biogas generated at landfills and at dairy farms into clean, renewable electricity or renewable natural gas (RNG). As a leader in this industry, with more than 20 operating facilities stretching from North Carolina to California, we have the proven capabilities to help provide communities with safe, environmentally sound renewable energy.  Headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, DTE Biomass Energy is a wholly owned subsidiary of DTE Energy.  DTEBE has an immediate opening at our facility below.




Job Summary

Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan 

Reports to the Director of Assets and is responsible for maximizing financial returns from company assets through general knowledge of contracts, operations, insurance, regulatory compliance, markets and financial reporting. Assists with the evaluation of acquisitions and development opportunities. Develops and maintains relationships with customers, partners and other stakeholders. Focuses on renewable natural gas (RNG) projects, with an emphasis on effectuating the registration and ongoing management of the business’s environmental attributes. Directs the collection, organization, analysis, and interpretation of records to facilitate data driven decisions.

Key Accountabilities

•    Oversees the compliance and monetization of environmental attributes in accordance with EPA and CARB regulations
•    Prepares or coordinates preparation of business reports including detailed data submissions as required by contracts, government agencies, regulatory agencies, etc.
•    Interacts with the EPA and CARB, as well as consultants, to ensure compliance with new regulations
•    Maintains a data tracking system to maintain compliance with all existing carbon programs, meets all project obligations and due dates, and directs annual carbon verification process
•    Reconciles gas metering and trucking data as well as tracks gas from digesters to dispensing stations
•    Reviews, verifies and scrubs monthly production data for RNG projects
•    Interfaces with IT and Operations team to identify and solve issues around data collection and reporting
•    Interfaces with customers and partners (farms, pipeline companies, consultants, etc.) to maintain relationships and ensure timely and accurate data collection
•    Provides operational data to outside consultants quarterly, semi-annually and annually
•    Prepares and/or coordinates preparation of business reports as required by contracts, government agencies, etc.
•    Understands model(s) (GREET model) used by regulators to determine project specific CI scores
•    Works with Operations, Engineering, and 3rd party consultants to understand and maximize Carbon Intensity (CI) scores
•    Works to implement Continuous Improvement tools to ensure timely data collection and monthly data closeout
•    Assists Finance in monitoring financial performance against project pro forma and performance benchmarks
•    Budgets/forecasts the timing of RIN/LCFS credit revenue recognition
•    Creates and implements action plans to address risks and opportunities
•    Provides administrative support in the capital approval process
•    During project evaluation, identifies performance gaps and develops solutions to improve results
•    Works with Operations leadership to craft the business unit’s annual operating plan
•    Performs all other related duties as assigned

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

•    Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, industrial technology, engineering or a relevant field plus five years of work experience in accounting, asset management, finance, operations, or project development or equivalent work experience

Other Qualifications

•    Experience with EPA and CARB regulations
•    Master of Business Administration degree

•    Ability to collect, organize, and analyze data to facilitate data driven decisions
•    Practical experience utilizing root cause analysis tools and problem solving with the scientific method
