Job Summary

This position works across business units (BUs) as well as with all levels of the BU to execute high leverage technical projects in pursuit of operational excellence.  This position is responsible for project identification, scope and assessment to lead engineering; including the identification, collection, organization, analysis and interpretation of data to facilitate data driven decisions throughout the BUs. Work requiring a high level of independent judgment, initiative and discretion. Work is mainly self-directed in collaboration with the CI and/or BU Lead, with work results reviewed through the achievement of set goals and adherence to policies and procedures.

Key Accountabilities
  • Leads high-impact cross-functional technical projects and business-wide improvement initiatives.
  • Provides support for the BUs during project selection, scoping, and implementation to ensure effective application of engineering solutions to achieve business goals.
  • Ensures effective and timely communication with all stakeholders throughout the BU on the status of project(s).
  • Perform material balances, heat balances and develop understanding of chemical reactions to research and develop technical solutions to address business challenges in support of operations and environmental compliance as well as new development opportunities.
  • Identifies gaps in the BU’s performance and develops and collaborates to provide cost effective engineering solutions.
  • Provides engineering expertise for the BUs project portfolio through identification, collection, organization, analysis, interpretation of data and execution of projects.
  • Identifies, recommends, and shares engineering best practices to facilitate effective solutions and methods that will improve BU/Site performance.
  • Evaluates design solutions for feasibility and cost benefit to recommend best in class technical solutions for current operations, redesign opportunities or green field development.
  • Documents research findings and communicate to operations to ensure project deliverables are sustainable with critical operating characteristics identified and controlled.
  • Participates in a minimum of one professional organization and presents technical paper(s) to industry organization.
  • Travel is required for up to 50% of the time. 
  • Identifies and develops business opportunities that align with enterprise priorities; provides technical guidance to leadership relative to operational performance and key operational metrics.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical) and two years of industry experience, including implementation experience in Lean, Six Sigma, or other performance operating systems and a working knowledge of process variability reduction (Six Sigma) and waste reduction (Lean) principles are required to provide for the following:

  • Working knowledge of process design and data analysis software (i.e. Mini-Tab).
  • Travel in order to meet duties/responsibilities, including overnight travel up to 50%, is required.
  • Accountable for execution of business processes according to standard.
  • Accountable for improvement activities in pursuit of Operational Excellence.
  • Ability to collect, organize, and analyze data to facilitate data driven decisions.
  • Practical experience utilizing root cause analysis tools and problem solving with the scientific method.
  • Practical experience at identifying and sharing critical information / learning in a timely manner.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The employee performs job duties in a climate controlled office environment and in a plant site. In the course of working at the plant site, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, and may work near moving mechanical parts and/or machinery. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in the office, but may become loud at the plant site.
