Job Summary

Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan

 

This position is responsible to help develop the organization’s strategic and long-range goal planning and will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities and creating value in structuring development transactions. This highly visible role will require analytic, energetic, innovative, results-oriented individuals with quick and inquisitive minds. Must be able to demonstrate a proven track record of developing and closing multi-million dollar projects. Must possess a broad range of financial and commercial skills, be capable of managing the details of complex transactions, have the ability to work within a team-oriented environment in rapidly evolving markets, and be able to handle multiple assignments. 

Key Accountabilities
  •  Drives strategic initiatives and supports the development of long-term growth plans and profitability goals
  •  Analyzes emerging industry trends, and recommends expansion opportunities, including mergers and acquisitions, competitive threats, viability of outside business partners, venture capital sources, internal business performance and business process improvement
  •  Oversees organizational reviews, communicating results to senior management, and developing strategies based on organizational reviews
  •  Communicates with industry analysts and the investment community, as directed
  •  Identifies, screens and evaluates acquisition targets
  •  Initiates or follows leads as provided for new businesses, services, and customer sector opportunities
  •  Forecasts or assists with project performance using internal expertise, outside consulting firms, prospective customers, and equipment suppliers as needed
  •  Negotiates with counterparties to successfully structure transactions
  •  Works with others to refine financial pro-forma, process performance, business structure, operations and maintenance assumptions, and legal requirements
  •  Maintains target customer group relationships through direct contact with the prospective customers, and active participation in industry trade association activities
  •  Prepares internal and external presentations, and facilitates presentations by sr. management in the company at conferences and industry meetings
  •  May be assigned to monitor progress of consultants and suppliers; establishes reporting protocol and resolves any outstanding issues
  •  Actively participates in project/development meetings and demonstrates a supporting role relative to new business concept issues and associated resolutions
  •  Analyzes the value and the risks of major capital investments
  •  Identifies new business opportunities to grow the non-utility portfolio
  •  Performs all other related duties as assigned
     
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

MBA from a top-tier program with an emphasis on finance and/or strategy. A quantitative undergraduate degree is a plus (e.g., engineering, economics) and at least three years of post-MBA experience ideally in management consulting and/or investment banking, direct experience with M&A is also a plus.

  •  Ability to identify value-creation opportunities
  •  Possess strong project management skills
  •  Excellent financial modeling skills and experienced in valuation methodologies

  •  A solid understanding of the energy industry and the challenges it is facing
  •  Work well as a leader of large company team, and successfully close complex energy and/or asset related contracts
  •  Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong presentation skills and the ability to analyze and communicate complex transactions to senior management a must
  •  Ability to take initiative
  •  Ability to handle multiple assignments
  •  Must be able to travel as necessary
