SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

 

Location:  Ann Arbor, Michigan

 

GENERAL SUMMARY

 

This is a professional position providing accounting and financial support to the DTE Energy Resources group of companies. Work involves performing difficult and complex services requiring a high level of independent judgement, initiative and discretion. Work is mainly self-directed, with work results reviewed through the achievement of set goals and adherence to policies and procedures.

 

PRINICIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Prepares and/or reviews journal entries at all levels of complexity, within Company closing schedule
  • Performs account reconciliations at all levels of complexity
  • Monitors the general ledger and accounting systems that contain the financial records and databases
  • Completes monthly closing of books within timeframe to comply with holding company closing requirements
  • Prepares and fully understand the billing and accounting for various projects as defined in the various project agreements
  • Identifies issues and raises to the appropriate level
  • Reviews contracts, ensuring accounting activities are in compliance with GAAP
  • Understands and adheres to internal control policies and procedures
  • Prepares the financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Prepares monthly management reports communicating the financial performance of the companies and variances from the budget
  • Prepares independent audit schedules as required
  • Participates in the development of budgets and projections
  • Maintains relationships with other DTE Energy affiliate companies
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, and a minimum of two years experience in accounting to provide for the following:

  • Certified Public Accountant accreditation a plus
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and basic knowledge of PowerPoint
  • Experience with accounting software, SAP experience preferred
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills and effective presentation skills
  • Ability to efficiently handle competing priorities and tasks, remain organized and meet deadlines
  • Ability to handle sensitive/confidential information
  • Ability to establish and maintain confidential and effective working relationships with supervisor, coworkers, management and external clients
  • Ability to function within a matrix organization. 
  • Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with both a functional and business leader, who collaborate on employee issues and decisions.
