Summer Associate Program for Finance and Strategy

DTE Energy Resources, a non-utility subsidiary of DTE Energy Company, is seeking ambitious, energetic, quantitatively adept individuals with an interest in high visibility roles in finance and strategy for its Summer Associate Program.


The Program

The Summer Associate Program provides first year MBA or similar advanced degree candidates the opportunity to experience working within multi‐disciplinary teams formed to identify, evaluate, negotiate, and execute energy‐related transactions and strategies.  Specific responsibilities could include:

  • Identifying and screening potential acquisition candidates
  • Conducting valuation, due diligence, structuring, negotiation, and integration for an acquisition
  • Developing and negotiating the pricing and structure for an on‐site cogeneration project
  • Evaluating investments in new renewable energy technologies
  • Developing a marketing plan to grow an existing product line
  • Researching and assessing industry competitors



A strong candidate possesses:

  • A broad range of financial, strategic, and commercial skills 
  • Is capable of managing the details of complex transactions
  • Has the ability to workwithin a team‐oriented environment in rapidly evolving markets

Required core skills include: 

  • Strong focus on finance and strategy with excellent financial modeling skills
  • Ability to understand, articulate and perform valuation analyses
  • Analytical ability to distill complex transactions into their essential elements and communicate the results to senior management
