Job Summary

Location: Bakersfield, CA

This individual is directly responsible for testing, analyzing, and controlling the various parameters in the Water Treatment Plant to ensure optimum performance, and the production of the highest boiler quality water possible.

Key Accountabilities

  • Continuously monitor Water Plant systems and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Continuously monitor Water Plant chemistry, recognizing abnormal conditions and taking appropriate corrective actions.
  • Ensure the safe transfer of chemicals within the Water Plant in accordance with Company policy and procedures.
  • Work shift work, overtime, and emergency “call outs” as required.
  • Perform routine maintenance functions such as lubrications, belt replacement and filter changes.
  • Perform assigned maintenance duties during plant shutdowns.
  • Maintain the Water Plant equipment in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
  • Perform water quality testing for the following equipment: Wemco, Clarifier, R.O. and D.I. units.
  • Maintain logs and reports as required to inform others of current operating parameters or condition of equipment and systems.
  • Monitor the operation of the plant water wells WS-1 and WS-2 as required to ensure proper operation.
  • Monitor the water drainage moat and containment pond for proper operation and maintain level in pond below overflow pipe.
  • Assist other Operations Tech positions as requested/required.
  • Assist with development of training materials and training of other operators.
  • Successfully complete training objectives as assigned.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent and two years of water plant or other process control systems work experience
  • A valid drivers license is required

Other Qualifications

  • Must have demonstrated technical ability in the operation and maintenance of a water processing plant or equivalent process system.
  • Must have the general ability to read and understand piping drawings, logic flow charts and process diagrams.
  • Must be capable of performing all operations in a safe manner.
  • Must have beginning knowledge of chemistry, electricity / electronics, thermodynamics, pneumatic and mechanical systems.
  • Must have a general knowledge of OSHA standards.
  • Must be capable of concise, understandable, and legible communications both oral and written.

  • Sit, stand, or walk for a minimum of 8-hour shifts, including walking long distances, up and down stairs and on uneven ground 
  • Frequently lift objects of up to 75 pounds in weight and carry objects of up to 35 pounds in weight. Occasionally the employee will have to push or pull objects of up to 70 pounds in weight
  • Frequently climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or occasionally, crawl
  • Talk & hear; use hands & fingers; handle & feel; and able to reach with hands and arms extensively
  • Frequent operations of controls with occasional driving and fine hand function manipulations of tools and equipment
  • Vision requirements for this position include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, and extreme heat and cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or machinery and burns. Exposed to protected and unprotected heights, which requires the use of a personal fall protection system (harness/lifeline). Occasionally exposed to vibration and fumes or airborne particles which will require the use of personal protective equipment including respirators; flame retardant clothing; self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), etc. Enter and work in confined space areas.
