Job Summary

Location: Mt. Poso Cogeneration Company, LLC, Bakersfield, California


This position is responsible for providing fuel to the boiler; as well as being responsible for all of the equipment, fuel and machinery. Work is performed under direct supervision with results reviewed through the achievement of set goals and adherence to policies and procedures.   This position reports directly to the Fuel Yard Supervisor, but will also take daily direction from the Control Operator on shift.

Key Accountabilities


  • Complies with all site safety requirements and procedures
  • Identifies safety hazards and takes corrective actions as necessary
  • Operates fuel conveyors and receiving hoppers.
  • Operates scale house and unloads trucks.
  • Operates the fuel reclaimer during pile swaps and monitor it during normal operation.
  • Services fuel yard equipment daily before shift change and completes shift logs in Opralog and Plantlog.
  • Inspects conveyer systems daily
  • Performs Preventative Maintenance in fuel yard
  • Assists O&M Tech I, II-WP, III and IV as necessary
  • Daily Quality Control
  • Take pile temperatures
  • Communicate well with other company personnel
  • Responds to abnormal and emergency operating situations in a safe and reasonable manner
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned



  • Responsible for the on-shift operation of the Power Plant water treatment facility in accordance with OSHA standards and written Company Policy.
  • Continuously monitors water plant systems and equipment making adjustments as necessary to ensure safe efficient operation and produce water that is within established quality standards. Recognizes abnormal conditions and take proper corrective actions.
  • Collects, tabulates and evaluates equipment operating data to identify potential problems. Resolves problems if possible. Reports evaluations, actions and/or recommendations to the Shift Foreman.
  • Performs required water chemistry tests at various points throughout the water plant. Determines and adds the correct dose of chemicals to maintain water chemistry test results in proper limits.
  • When required, unloads bulk caustic soda and sulfuric acid tanker trucks into plant storage tanks.
  • Adjusts feed rates on various chemical feed metering pumps to maintain chemical parameters of the water treatment process.
  • Starts, operates and shuts down Reverse Osmosis and Demineralization units as required to meet plant needs. Performs chemical regenerations of the Demineralizer as needed.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements


A high school diploma or GED is required.  Training on mobile heavy equipment, loaders, trucks and welding, experience in maintenance is preferred to provide for the following:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Ability to read and write effectively in English and do basic mathematics.
  • Background in operating loaders; maintenance; performing shift work.
  • Must possess the knowledge and ability to use computers and related technology efficiently.
  • Knowledge of plant safety, policies and procedures, especially in areas such as chemical handling, high-energy systems, confined spaces, incipient fire suppression, first aid, rotating machinery, and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, coworkers, management and the general public.
  • Ability to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime and respond to call-ins when contacted.

Must be able to enter and work in confined space areas, including boilers, condensers, tanks, etc. to evaluate equipment condition or inspect work efforts by assigned resources.


The employee in this classification will be required to frequently lift objects of up to 25 pounds in weight. Occasionally the employee will have to lift or move objects of up to 40 pounds in weight. In addition, the employee will occasionally push or pull up to 70 pounds in weight.


Vision requirements for this position include close vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.



While performing the duties of this job, the employee works both in a business office setting and out in plant. In the course of working at the plant site, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, extreme heat, and may work near moving mechanical parts and/or machinery. The employee is occasionally exposed fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in the office, but may become loud at the plant site.
