Job Summary

 Location:  Cleveland, OH

The person holding this position will be responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the chiller plant and associated equipment, AHUs (Air Houses), and cooling units on internal machinery. All interactions with our customer are expected to be professional and courteous while providing the service and support needed for success.

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Performs all station shift operation and maintenance, including startup and shutdown of main plant components and auxiliaries.
  • Perform operations in accordance with established SOPs and job safety standards.
  • Respond to abnormalities and take corrective actions consistent with established operating procedures and good engineering practice.
  • Conducts routine tours of the plant to inspect equipment; provides feedback to management and other employees.
  • Complies with all site safety requirements and procedures. Identifies and reports safety hazards and takes corrective actions as necessary.
  • Maintains accuracy of shift operating logs, records, time sheets, work orders and other administrative documents related to plant operations.
  • Checks daily consumption rates of chemicals, water, and other consumables; monitors inventories and initiates action to replenish when appropriate.
  • Performs plant switching and tagging of equipment in accordance with approved procedures and prudent operations and maintenance practices.
  • Performs mechanical inspections, trouble- shooting, and maintenance tasks under direction of Management or Lead O&M Technician.
  • Investigates plant problems, incidents, accidents, and unusual events, and provides analyses, recommendations, reports, and appropriate follow-up plans.
  • Reads and records gauges and meters. Performs routine operational test and adjustments on all power plant systems and components, as required.
  • Conduct Contractor / Visitor Safety Orientations in accordance with Company Policy.
  • Facilitates pre-job briefs with staff/contractors to ensure worker safety and DTE policies and procedures are followed.
  • Active participant of the site safety team/committee.
  • Develops, assists, and revises operations and maintenance related procedures.
  • Performs and maintains housekeeping standards and duties.
  • Performs routine preventive and predictive maintenance on all systems and equipment; supports corrective maintenance efforts on selected equipment when properly trained, observed by the Lead O&M Technician or supervised by Management.
  • Becomes Subject Matter Expert or system representative on assigned systems or safety.
  • Performs other duties necessary to fulfill plant requirements.
  • Communicates with other company personnel on-site and at other locations. Represents the company in dealing with the public, customers, vendors, contractors, regulators, and other non-company personnel under the direction of Management.
  • Assist other team members and works with all departments to support the operation in achieving its goals.
  • Willingness to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime and respond to off-hour call-ins when contacted.

 

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED is required. 
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to maintain it.
  • A Universal Refrigeration License is required.
  • Must possess basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including: Outlook, Work, Teams, SharePoint, and Excel.
  • Knowledge and professional work experience with Standard Operating Procedures, Pre-Job Briefs, Job Hazard Analysis, and LOTO is required.
  • Must have professional working knowledge of and experience in the operation and maintenance of Centrifugal Chillers, Water Treatment, Cooling Towers, Air Houses, and Gas fired equipment.
  • Must possess working knowledge and experience removing, adding, trimming, reclaiming of refrigerants from refrigeration equipment.
  • Troubleshooting, testing, repairing, diagnosing, replacing of parts, components, and refrigerant leak repair on equipment cooling units is required.
  • Willingness to work rotating shift schedules, overtime, stay-over, and respond to off hour call ins is required.

 

Other Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with using Maximo is a plus.
  • Experience with Leidos HMI controls is a plus
  • Five (5) years of chiller plant experience in operations and maintenance preferred.
  • Ability to complete site specific written qualification program.
  • Knowledge of chiller plant safety, policies, and procedures, especially in area such as chemical handling, high energy systems, confined spaces, incipient fire suppression, first aid, rotating machinery, and heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to understand fundamental principles related to physics, mathematics, AC & DC electrical theory, heat transfer and fluid flow, thermal dynamics, and chemistry.
  • Basic Knowledge of and some experience in the following skills: pipefitting, welding, machining, rigging, rotating machine repair, fabrication, machine alignment, basic vibration analysis, and using electrical test equipment.
  • Knowledge of chemistry and chiller plant chemical applications. Ability to operate valves, switches, controls, keyboards, and other devices.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools, portable electric and pneumatic tools, and basic rigging equipment such as winches, hoists and slings.
  • Ability to locate, troubleshoot, and adjust defects in mechanical equipment and/or maintain, install, modify, and troubleshoot plant electrical systems and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate and maintain various analytical and test equipment.

  • The employee in this classification will be required to lift objects of up to 50 pounds in weight. Carry objects of up to 35 pounds in weight. Occasionally the employee will have to push or pull objects 70 pounds in weight.
  • Vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  •  The employee must be comfortable  working , on ladders, lifts and heights of  greater than 20 feet.

 

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works both in a utility plant environment and outdoors. In the course of working at the plant site, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, works near moving mechanical parts and/or machinery. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may become loud at the plant site.
