Hybrid Role: Must be able to come on-site periodically and reside a commutable distance from the assigned work location. This position is based out of the Belle River Power Plant (BLRPP)
Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.
Job Summary
Intermediate level engineer responsible for independently evaluating, selecting and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Uses judgment in applying or recommending adaptions and modifications. Typical assignments are in the areas of engineering or scientific design, problem solving, and technical support for the optimum operation and maintenance of company assets. Participates on teams of field employees, technicians, engineers and other personnel.
Key Accountabilities
- Performs engineering assignments, proposing solutions to engineering related problems.
- Works with experienced professionals to recommend and implement timely solutions involving routine engineering, design, operation, maintenance of company assets and market optimization.
- Collaborates with more experienced engineers to provide follow-up and engineering assistance on defined problems within time and budget constraints.
- Develops models and analyzes data in order to recommend solutions and/or improvements in processes and programs; develops and presents presentations to all levels of management and/or external parties.
- May provide field engineering assistance or technical support.
- Keeps up to date on current technology and market/technology trends.
- Ensures environmental regulatory compliance by monitoring, reporting, developing and implementing procedures and strategies
- Perform, coordinates and recommends solutions for environmental issues based on investigations, professional judgement, current industry practices and occasional consultation with experienced professionals
- Reviews and interprets environmental regulations and proposed regulatory changes to assess impact and to ensure compliance
- Represents the company on environmental issues with regulatory agencies and industry groups
- Understanding of environmental laws and regulations
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science job relevant discipline and a minimum of 2 years of job relevant experience
Other Qualifications
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science.
- Experience in the Utility industry and/or at a Power Generation Facility
- Experience with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) reporting and permit compliance.
- Experience with Air Emissions Reporting and Compliance.
- Experience with Environmental Emergency Planning (Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures Plan, Facility Response Plans, Integrated Contingency Plans and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans.
- Experience in Waste Management, Compliance and Shipping
- RCRA nd DOT Certified for Hazardous and Universal Waste Storage.
- HAZWOPER 40hr Certification
- Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control (SESC) Certification in Michigan
Other Requirements:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, primarily Excel and Word
- Intermediate analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong time management, prioritization, and organization skills
- Proficient communication and interpersonal skills
