Are you passionate about environmental compliance and sustainability? We’re looking for a dedicated Staff Engineer in Environmental Compliance to join our team at the Belle River Power Plant in East China Township.  This role requires the individual to be onsite 5 days a week. In this role, you’ll ensure our operations meet the highest standards across all environmental media, including water, waste, land, and air. Ideal candidates will have  experience in RCRA waste management, NPDES permit compliance, ROP reporting, spill prevention and response plans, Integrated Contingency Plans, environmental emergency planning, spill response and cleanup, Hazwoper certification, Part 91 Soil Erosion inspection, above-ground storage tank inspection, and Tier II reporting.

Job Summary

Intermediate level engineer responsible for independently evaluating, selecting and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.  Uses judgment in applying or recommending adaptions and modifications. Typical assignments are in the areas of engineering or scientific design, problem solving, and technical support for the optimum operation and maintenance of company assets.  Participates on teams of field employees, technicians, engineers and other personnel.

Key Accountabilities

  • Performs engineering assignments, proposing solutions to engineering related problems.
  • Works with experienced professionals to recommend and implement timely solutions involving routine engineering, design, operation, maintenance of company assets and market optimization.
  • Collaborates with more experienced engineers to provide follow-up and engineering assistance on defined problems within time and budget constraints.
  • Develops models and analyzes data to recommend solutions and/or improvements in processes and programs; develops and presents presentations to all levels of management and/or external parties.
  • May provide field engineering assistance or technical support.
  • Keeps up to date on current technology and market/technology trends.
  • Ensures environmental regulatory compliance by monitoring, reporting, developing, and implementing procedures and strategies.
  • Perform, coordinates, and recommends solutions for environmental issues based on investigations, professional judgement, current industry practices and occasional consultation with experienced professionals.
  • Reviews and interprets environmental regulations and proposed regulatory changes to assess impact and to ensure compliance.
  • Represents the company on environmental issues with regulatory agencies and industry groups.
  • Understanding of environmental laws and regulations.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science job relevant discipline and a minimum of 2 years of job relevant experience.

Other Qualifications

Preferred:  

  • Experience in RCRA waste management, NPDES permit compliance, ROP reporting, spill prevention and response plans.
  • Knowledge of Integrated Contingency Plans, environmental emergency planning, spill response and cleanup.
  • Part 91 Soil Erosion inspection, above-ground storage tank inspection, and Tier II reporting.
  • Hazwoper certification.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, primarily Excel and Word.
  • Intermediate analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong time management, prioritization, and organization skills.
  • Proficient communication and interpersonal skills.
