In-Person Role: Must be able to work on-site 5 days per week. Must reside within a reasonable commute from the primary work location. 

 

Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary

Responsible for overall distribution operations in an assigned region or area. Provide strategic leadership that fosters a culture of personal accountability, employee and public safety, service reliability, and customer satisfaction, in a combined (union) represented and non-represented environment. Identify and implement changes consistent with continuous operational improvement; accountable for meeting budget objectives; builds and promotes a customer-focused (internal and external) organizational strategy. Span of control: 4 -7 direct reports, with an overall rollup of 50 – 250 non-represented, represented employees, and contingent workers.

Key Accountabilities

  • Direct the development and implementation of short and long-term business plans that support achievement of organizational and corporate business objectives.
  • Responsible for the development, execution, and oversight of the electric distribution safety plan; and accountable for the safety performance of the region and the overall organization.
  • Responsible for reliability and emergency response, compliance, and customer satisfaction on behalf of the distribution business area.
  • Responsible for developing, recommending, and implementing business strategies and associated annual and long-term business plans that effectively utilize resources and position the organization to meet future business needs.
  • Develop and manage annual and long-term budgets, while being responsible and accountable for capital investment expenditures.
  • Provide clear and effective communication of the organization’s vision, mission, and key objectives to support achievement of organization and corporate goals.
  • Lead the development and implementation of cost-effective labor strategies that provide the region with maximum flexibility in aligning resources to support business needs.
  • Develop and maintain effective partnerships with Labor Relations and local union leadership while ensuring consistent application of applicable collective bargaining agreements are met and be a key member of labor negotiations.
  • Establish and communicate clear performance expectations and manage performance when necessary, so that employees know how their work contributes to the achievement of organizational and corporate objectives.
  • Distribution business area liaison with key senior executives and electric distribution business area.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with other organizational and corporate peers, to ensure timely, effective information sharing and business learning as well as common best practices implementation.
  • Plan, schedule, monitor, and direct work to meet or exceed customer expectations, to further advance the company’s initiatives of best-in-class performance.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

This is a multi-track base requirement job; education and experience requirements can be satisfied through one of the following options:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of experience in a utility or distribution operations inclusive of 3 years of formal leadership experience; OR
  • Associate degree and 8 years of experience in a utility or distribution operations, inclusive of 3 years of formal leadership experience; OR
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 10 years of experience in a utility or distribution operations, inclusive of 3 years formal leadership experience.

Other Requirements

  • Has on-call responsibility; must be available for priority, emergency response, and storm situations.
  • Demonstrated ability in creating new methods, services, products, and solutions
  • Strong employee and customer relationship building skills
  • Demonstrated ability in change management building consensus and support for programs and initiatives
  • Possess a valid driver's license, meet company driving standards and provide own transportation within the service area
  • Working knowledge and experience in Union/Management labor agreement administration, and knowledge of financial and economic analysis
  • Working knowledge and support of diversity/EEO, safety, and training programs
  • Basic knowledge of the company's software programs, such as OAS, WMS, etc.
