Hybrid Role: This role is hybrid, with an established schedule of in-person work required at an assigned work location. Any remote work is expected to be performed from an employee’s primary residence, unless allowed (or prohibited) through the Company’s remote work guidelines.

Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary

Responsible for the completion of multiple small to intermediate-size capital construction projects. May work on a larger project under the guidance of more senior project managers. Uses formal project management methods to coordinate project team activities including defining the scope of work, scheduling, estimating and engineering. Manage costs and change control procedures and ensure project close-out and documentation processes are complete.  Span of control, this is an individual contributor job.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develops project scope and coordinates a team of specialists who provide project schedule, cost estimates and engineering specifications for capital projects. 
  • Ensures the completion of engineering, design, installation, testing, commissioning into service and project closeout.
  • Supports daily management of on-site construction activities, working with the general contractor or multiple contractors and service providers.
  • Responsible for project expenditures and the cost-effective procurement of labor, equipment, and materials: coordinates with authorized company representatives in conducting bid meetings and reviews, supplier selections and evaluations; determines contracting strategy congruent with labor utilization strategies.
  • Communicates project status to all stakeholders. Engages appropriate stakeholders in decisions and ensures a clear understanding of direction and expectations.
  • Responsible for meeting key performance metrics associated with project scope, schedule and budget.
  • Manage and control project risks and issues.
  • Ensures compliance with safety, environmental and other regulatory requirements.
  • Interfaces with internal organizations, plants, suppliers, general contractors, building trades labor organizations/unions etc. and may support contract administration services for blanket orders or other subcontractors and vendors.
  • Ensures compliance with all documentation and record keeping requirements. Completes documentation and record keeping requirements.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

This is a multi-track base requirement job; education and experience requirements can be satisfied through one of the following three options:

  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, construction management, project management, or business/management and 4 years of project management experience.
  • Associate degree in engineering, engineering technology, architecture/technical design, project management, business/management, construction management, or construction technology and 6 years of project management experience.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 8 years of project management experience.

Other Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
  • Electrical Distribution, Transmission, Gas, Industrial, or Power Generation project management experience
  • Operations experience in the Utility industry
  • Renewable Energy project management experience 

Other Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of PC & computer-based scheduling and financial tools, including (e.g Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Primavera, MS Project, SAP & Maximo)
  • Communications (written & verbal): creates reports, designs, and conducts presentations at all levels of the Corporation.
  • Managing capabilities prioritizes, delegates & manages time and workflow effectively.
  • Analytical & decision-making abilities makes decisions systematically; anticipates and mitigates problems and understands decisions' business implications.
