On-Site Role: Must be available to work on-site at this assigned work location.
Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.
Job Summary
Monitors and controls the flow and pressure of natural gas on gas and non-utility transmission, distribution, storage and gathering systems in less complex situations under the guidance of a senior or principal gas controller. Helps respond to alarms and other abnormal operating conditions affecting controls at automated stations and provides support in advising operational employees. Span of control: 0; individual contributor.
Key Accountabilities
• Supports system processes and procedures that ensure the stable and reliable operation of gas and non-utility transmission, storage and distribution systems
• Assists with monitoring the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to identify and support the appropriate responses to abnormal operating conditions
• Conducts point to point verifications and reviews pressure control and construction procedures, including verifying and compiling data and preparing accurate daily reports and logs
• Coordinates pressure and flow relationships to meet daily nomination requirements at receipt and delivery points in the most efficient manner
• Supports execution of storage field priorities and minimization of company fuel use under the direction of a senior team member
• Supports team with compliance of regulatory requirements, including control room policies and procedures
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or GED and two years of technical experience in alternative energy (wind/solar/hydro), water/sewage processing, hydrocarbon liquids processing, natural gas transmission/distribution, mechanical, electrical, and/or communications technician area
Other Qualifications
Preferred
• Associate degree or technical certification in electrical, mechanical, or related field
• Experience in SCADA controls (e.g., gas pipeline control rooms, hazardous liquids pipeline control rooms, refinery or distillery control rooms, etc.)
Other Requirements
• Supports a 24-hour/day operation with 12-hour rotating shifts
• Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Excel, and Word
• Proficient verbal, written and presentation skills
• Knowledge of pressure/flow relationships and concepts
• Ability to manage routine/ongoing tasks while responding to emergency situations under the direction of a senior or principal controller
• Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives and recommend optimal solutions for various situations
• Ability to work with shifting priorities and embrace new/evolving responsibilities
• Passes initial drug screening and Department of Transportation random drug screenings
• Ability to complete Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) gas training as required
