Job Summary

Location: Detroit, MI

This position has overall responsibility for assigned projects including oversight of the development and execution of operational strategies, maximizing profit and return, and meeting safety and environmental objectives. Directs the activities of Asset Managers in support of assignments and projects across the entire investment portfolio.
 

Provides periodic assistance in the development of new projects and analysis of potential acquisitions either directly or through direct reports. Collaborates with Director of Operations and staff to embrace best practices throughout operations. Ensures conformance with all business plans, contractual agreements, and performance objectives. Develops and reviews annual departement budget and participates in the review of actuals and forecasts of financial performance for the business unit.

Key Accountabilities

  • Sets overall strategic objectives and establishes priorities for the assigned business line
  • Works with Director of Operations and Controller and staff to share and implement best practices throughout the organization
  • Delivers financial results in accordance with a pro forma or budget; implements corrective actions where required
  • Develops and executes strategies to maximize profit and returns including contract origination and modifications, capital improvements, deal restructurings and market price risk hedging
  • Supports the evaluation of acquisition and development opportunities 
  • Builds and maintains relationships with key decision makers within customer & stakeholder organizations
  • Leads team to ensure compliance with project agreements and environmental markets
  • Leads or supports negotiations to modify key project agreements
  • Extensive knowledge of contract terms and conditions and the ability to administer complex contracts
  • Knowledge of the regulatory processes and compliance regimes under which facilities operate and generate & monetize environmental attributes, as applicable
  • Performs all related duties as assigned
     

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business, accounting, finance, operations management, industrial technology, engineering, or a relevant science
  • Ten or more years of experience in asset management, finance, operations, project development or an equivalent role in a construction, manufacturing, or service environment

Other Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly and concisely communicate both verbally and in writing to internal and external audiences
  • Understanding of the technology utilized by the facilities and how it relates to the commodities and environmental attributes created by DTE Vantage
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple simultaneous activities
  • Ability to critically review and support the capital appropriation process from conception to completion
  • Familiarity with building a positive presence within host communities
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel; familiarity with email, scheduling, commitment tracking, customer relations and time reporting software applications
  • Proven ability to take tasks, assignments, and projects from start to completion without significant supervision

  • Ability to manage using delegation and empowerment
  • Significant experience with budgets, operating plans, income statements and pro forma models
  • In-depth understanding of the financial impact of operational and maintenance decisions at a facility
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively to operations and logistics problems in order to initiate immediate involvement and timely solutions from affected organizations

  • Perform job duties primarily in a work from home capacity and periodically from a climate-controlled office environment, with a moderate noise level. However, on an occasional basis the employee may be required to travel to project sites where noise levels and environmental conditions may vary.
