Job Summary

Serves as content expert on ethics employment and compliance practices, risk assessment and corporate policy and procedures. Provides high level decision making analysis on ethics and compliance activities to ensure compliance. Serves as primary consulting resource for the company and collaborates with business unit leadership. Span of control = 0; this is an individual contributor job.

Key Accountabilities

• Partners with clients to assess ethics and compliance business risks, identify gaps, and recommend appropriate corrective action to ensure ethical behavior and compliance with laws and regulations
• Facilitates/leads team initiatives and/or projects in the development of ethics and compliance programs
• Performs research of existing and emerging regulatory environments, including assessing impact
• Partners with client to educate and develop ethics and compliance strategy
• Monitors, analyzes, and reviews company operations to assess level of compliance with existing and proposed state, federal, and industry laws/regulations, including identifying gaps, recommending mitigation and assisting with remediation
• Plans and conducts investigations into alleged misconduct and makes recommendations for remediation
• Creates and presents comprehensive reports and presentations for ethics and compliance initiatives
• Compiles, analyzes, develops and organizes pertinent data and supporting documentation in accordance with established work product standards
• Develops and facilitates ethics and compliance related training and communications to employees
• Conducts legal and regulatory risk assessments and compliance audits to ensure effectiveness and mitigation of risks
• Maintains knowledge of current and emerging ethics and compliance industry trends
• Responsible for the overall implementation of action required to resolve work-related issues identified from various employee information gathering efforts including follow-up, measurement and course correction to maintain the integrity of the Office of Ethics and Compliance.
• Conducts investigations into allegations of misconduct and serves as a resource for the report of allegations of misconduct
• Identifies and proactively reports case trends and key messages to leadership; influences improvements and bridges gaps in executing policy or strategy
• Independently performs research of ethics and compliance industry and regulatory environment and makes recommendations for program enhancements
• Manages and resolves issues with employees - may act as a mediator
• Develops and facilitates ethics and compliance training to employees who work in identified risk areas
 

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Management, Human Resources, Engineering or related field with 7 years of experience, inclusive of 3 years of compliance related and risk assessment responsibilities
Other Qualifications

Preferred:
• Master's or Juris Doctorate degree
• 2 years of utility/energy operating experience
• Six Sigma/Continuous Improvement Certified
• Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) Certification

Other Requirements
• Expert knowledge and application of relevant local, state and federal laws and/or regulations
• Ability to identify existing or emerging risks, develop preventive measures and assist in the implementation of remediation
• Strong organizational skills with ability to effectively perform all aspects of project management including facilitating or leading cross-functional team
• Ability to assess, prioritize and mitigate ethics and compliance risks
• Highly effective verbal and written communication skills in multiple formats for varied audiences
• Strong analytical, problem solving and investigative skills
• Ability to generate new and creative ways of accomplishing daily work processes
• Ability to learn and become proficient on new software systems with the ability to identify and problem solve issues and/or defects
• Ability to build relationships and influence parties to engage in changing expectations or process improvements
• Ability to identify and safeguard confidential information
• Ability to complete required Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) gas and electric training
• Ability to pursue Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) certification
• Established reputation for integrity and experience interacting comfortably with employees of all levels as well as with diverse backgrounds with the ability to manage risks and keep highly sensitive information confidential
• Prominent interpersonal, listening, written and oral communication skill and demonstrated experience to organize, prepare and deliver information clearly
• Sensitive when dealing with employees from a wide variety of background and cultures, open and objective with equal agility to understand issues from varying perspectives
• Direct knowledge of current corporate dispute resolution process
• Organizational knowledge of company including business objectives, culture, labor relation, policies and procedures
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team as circumstances dictate and to manage multiple assignments, with resolution, in a timely manner
• Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational and project management skills with use of supporting tools/systems
• Maintains networking skills with the ability to establish and maintain a broad array of contacts with strong working relationships throughout the company and outside the company including membership in the nationally recognized Ethics and Ombudsman Association
• Expert level knowledge of Microsoft Office business applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access)
• Strong facilitation, mediation, judgment, problem solving, decision making and counseling skills
