Hybrid Role: This role is hybrid, with an established schedule of in-person work required at an assigned work location. Any remote work is expected to be performed from an employee’s primary residence, unless allowed (or prohibited) through the Company’s remote work guidelines.
Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.
Job Summary
Responsible for ensuring the safety, security, and operational continuity of the Chief Executive Officer and occasionally other Executives when needed. Provides proactive and reactive protective services, conducts ongoing threat and risk assessments, and supports secure movement, travel, and public engagements. Plans, coordinates and ensures personal protection throughout facilities, residence, airfields, off-site events, and ground and air transportation. Maintains personal profiles and conducts risk assessments of personnel covered by protection. This position requires 40% travel within the service territories.
Span of Control: 0; Individual Contributor role.
Key Accountabilities
- Monitors continuously and assess emerging and industry-specific threats, collaborating with internal and external partners to identify and mitigate risks.
- Analyzes intelligence trends and maintains situational awareness to provide informed security recommendations.
- Develops and maintains comprehensive security plans for executive travel, events, and facility visits, including advance site assessments, venue security reviews, and coordination with local authorities.
- Implements executive protection policies in line with IRS Title 26 and industry best practices, and plan secure transportation, contingency, and emergency response measures.
- Partners with internal stakeholders and external agencies for execution of safety guidelines and improving processes.
- Maintains strict confidentiality, demonstrates professionalism and discretion, and upholds the highest ethical standards in all interactions.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent with 8 years of experience in personnel protection, law enforcement, military, or corporate security, inclusive of 4 years of experience in executive protection.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and meet company driving standards.
- Must maintain qualifications for a Michigan Concealed Pistol License and maintain annual qualifications with a firearm.
Preferred:
- Ability to travel up to 40% within the service territories.
Other Qualifications
- Training in threat assessment, defensive tactics, emergency response, and protective intelligence.
- Ability to travel frequently and work flexible hours based on executive needs.
- Excellent communication, writing, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills.
