Job Summary

As a Senior Business Analyst, you will play an important role in the Digital Factory Product Team to facilitate connection between business objectives and core technological capabilities on an Agile team.  The Senior Business Analyst will work closely with the product owner, scrum master, and business SMEs to identify, monitor, and deliver business value drivers at each step of the Agile process.  The Senior BA is responsible for building out the value framework for the product, determining and tracking ROI throughout the product lifecycle and ensuring we deliver the stated value.  The Senior Business Analyst also works with the product owner to define the highest value user stories to ensure their prioritization and monitors product success metrics. Senior business analysts also solicit input from project managers and stakeholders in developing business case documentation, features and requirements. May be responsible for the management of medium to large-scale projects. Facilitates work sessions using targeted facilitation and advanced modeling techniques; guides business representatives and project teams in defining and describing requirements of the IT system, process, product, or service. Applies knowledge of application development/configuration, testing and development methodologies, various technologies and system analysis. Converts project requirements and specifications into testable features and components, documents test defects and issues, resolves problems and communicates test results and status to key stakeholders and leadership. Well versed in end-to-end business processes, data interpretation and analyzing metrics. May lead, mentor or coordinate less experienced analysts and IT staff, and participates in efforts to raise the level of practice for analysis/testing. Assignments are received in the form of results expected; within operating policies and procedures. Incumbent has the discretion to select from alternative approaches; decisions may involve changes to normal work processes. This is a senior professional-level position.

Key Accountabilities

  • Determines project requirements by meeting with key stakeholders or facilitates working sessions to elicit program features/requirements. Develops, monitors and maintains project plans and documents. Creates change requests as needed. Delivers project/program results as well as other project components in accordance with organizational standards and processes.
  • May lead test plans, test cases, test scenarios, related test data and test strategies. Actively participates in test case reviews, helps to identify test-related issues, risks, and requirements additions or changes and performs impact analysis on project scope. May perform all types of testing such as functional, regression, system and interface tests.
  • Effectively collaborates with project team members to validate requirements; works with stakeholders to ensure that IT-delivered solutions meet business unit needs.
  • Acts as a lead liaison among stakeholders, project team(s), and leadership in order to understand the structure, policies, and operations of an organization; works in conjunction with team members and our architectural direction to recommend pathways that enable the organization to achieve its goals.
  • Provides planning and time estimates for own assignments; assists less experienced team members.
  • Performs independent system analysis activities including evaluating and making complex changes to appropriate systems; takes ownership of problems within the relevant discipline.
  • Works on projects of moderate to high complexity that may involve one or more business partners, interfaces or systems. May be responsible for developing and monitoring project plans. Participates in the planning and scheduling of work activities and projects.
  • May assist and provide training to team members. Provides leadership, mentoring and coaching.
  • Keeps abreast of technology trends and DTE Energy's stated direction to select technology platforms that are appropriate and cost beneficial. Works toward certification in areas of expertise, when available (e.g. IIBA).
  • Incorporates the strategic vision of the business when eliciting features and requirements, and guides teams towards a solution that meets the business needs.
  • Maintains a symbiotic relationship with business partners within the scope of project work.
  • Promotes continuous improvement philosophy and methodology that results in a continuous improvement culture within Information Technology. May utilize a variety of Operating System principles and tools to facilitate effective solutions that improve process design in all areas of the business.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • Education and experience requirements can be satisfied through one of the following options:
    • High School Diploma and knowledge and capabilities typically acquired through at least 8 years of Information Technology related experience
    • Associate degree or industry-recognized certificate (i.e the completion of a core group of courses designated by the institution) in an information technology related discipline (other non-Information Technology degrees will be considered) and the knowledge and capabilities typically acquired through at least 6 years of Information Technology related experience
    • Bachelor's degree in an information technology-related discipline (other non-Information Technology degrees will be considered) and the knowledge and capabilities typically acquired through at least 4 years of Information Technology related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an Agile development environment 
  • Experience in Continuous Improvement including identification of quantifiable business metrics, specifically identifying, tracking, and ensuring product teams deliver business cost value drivers 
  • Experience developing product value success metrics such as cost savings 
  • Experience facilitating business value workshops and identification of whether business value was achieved 
  • Experience working with product owner and business stakeholders to identify and prioritize highest value user stories  
  • Experience facilitate connection between business objectives and core technological capabilities 
  • Experience defining and monitoring business value drivers 
  • Experience building value framework and tracking ROI

  • Proven organization and planning skills.
  • Experience in managing projects/leading teams by applying industry standard modeling techniques, project management tools and continuous improvement principles.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with defining, tracking and analyzing metrics.
  • Broad understanding of analysis and IT industry, e.g emerging technologies, industry standards, support services, architectures systems design, and systems integration and solid knowledge of analysis and accepted IT processes and methodologies.
  • Proven expertise in documenting and facilitating working sessions with relevant stakeholders to elicit business requirements in accordance with organizational standards and processes.
  • May require proficiency in test case design and creation using documented requirements and features.
  • Ability to perform test execution and document actual results; experienced with various execution methods and test types and their appropriate usage.
  • Competent in multitasking (i.e the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, issues or projects that may include high visibility initiatives and require innovation, teamwork and planning).
  • Ability to work in a team and/or matrixed structure, supporting multiple clients.
  • Initiates new ideas and approaches; challenges orthodox practices and approaches with reasonably sound alternatives.
