Hybrid Role: Must be able to come on-site periodically and reside a commutable distance from the assigned work location.

Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary

    Assists management in the interpretation and administration of Collective Bargaining Agreements. Coordinates the resolution of grievances and arbitration cases. Advises management on the administration of disciplinary actions to ensure compliance with the provisions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement and/or company policy. Conduct research and analysis to determine company position relative to non-economic bargaining issues and participates in the contract negotiation process. Updates contract language and ensures appropriate changes are made to plan documents, policies and/or procedures as a result of contract changes.

Key Accountabilities

  • Serves as labor consultant to assigned leaders for the handling of all labor/management issues and advises management on the administration of disciplinary actions.
  • Coordinates the resolution of problems identified by union leadership and implement tactics to improve the union/management relationship.
  • Researches issues, supports the company's position relative to non- economic issues, and participates in the negotiation process to implement change.
  • Represents the company's position throughout the grievance process and coordinate the arbitration process.
  • Provides interpretation and administration of union contract provisions to ensure effective, non-disruptive labor relations.
  • Researches and assists management in implementing innovative programs to foster good working union/management relationships.
  • Composes union contract language and interfaces with other HR professionals to ensure that plans and policies reflect the appropriate union contract provisions.
  • Develops position papers based upon an analysis of qualitative and quantitative data.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of HR or labor agreement administration experience


  • Labor relations experience
  • Arbitration/Grievance experience
  • Interpretation and development of contracts

  • Proficient verbal, nonverbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to accurately analyze various forms of data, and assemble findings in a report or graphic format.
