Testing Required:
Hybrid Role: Must be able to come on-site periodically and reside a commutable distance from the assigned work location.
Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.
Job Summary
Responsible for the strategy, origination, and development of new opportunities that enable the Company’s growth priorities and align with the Company’s pathway to decarbonization. Leads the strategy, planning, and implementation of new growth businesses, including identification and development of new products and services as well as coordination and execution of investments, mergers, and acquisitions. Oversees and works closely with internal and external cross-functional resources to explore strategic concepts, research potential markets and opportunities, perform financial valuation analyses, and drive project execution and/or due diligence activities. Responsible for evaluation of existing portfolio of growth assets and evaluating potential exit strategies.
Span of Control: 2-5 individual contributors.
Key Accountabilities
- Drives the strategy, origination, and development of new opportunities that address changes in market dynamics, explore new business concepts, and enable the Company’s growth priorities.
- Oversees and works closely with internal and external cross-functional resources to explore strategic concepts, research potential markets and opportunities, perform financial valuation analyses, and drive project execution and/or merger and acquisition (M&A) due diligence activities.
- Leads and serves as subject matter expert for all aspects of M&A transaction execution including preparation and completion of term sheets, due diligence, definitive agreements, and pre- and post-closing activities.
- Delivers recommendations regarding potential opportunities and M&A transactions to leadership, including addressing risks, returns, strategic fit, and risk mitigation tactics.
- Oversees project prioritization including external relationship management, commercial negotiations, contract negotiations, internal resource management and business unit relationships.
- Oversees organizational reviews, communicating results and recommended strategies to senior management for development and execution.
- Develops marketing materials, management presentations, and M&A roadshow presentations for external outreach and communication.
- Develops and maintains relationships with external counterparties, investment bankers, business developers, and utility and industry leaders to identify new opportunities.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
This is a dual-track base requirement job; education and experience requirements can be satisfied through one of the following two options:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or finance with 10 years of experience in business or finance, inclusive of 5 years’ experience in corporate development, investment banking, mergers and acquisitions, or management consulting; or
- Master’s degree in business or finance with 8 years of experience in business or finance, inclusive of 3 years’ experience in corporate development, investment banking, mergers and acquisitions, or management consulting.
Other Qualifications
Preferred:
- Experience in the planning and execution of mergers and acquisitions, including, but not limited to, opportunity identification, evaluation, contract negotiation, transaction execution, and post-integration.
Other Requirements:
- Experience in leading complex business analysis and evaluation, including development of financial models and analysis.
- Ability to comprehend market and industry dynamics, explore business concepts, evaluate potential opportunities, perform financial and risk valuation analyses, and drive project execution and/or due diligence activities.
- Ability to lead multiple projects and cross-functional teams and resources to achieve results and meet deadlines.
- Ability to handle competing priorities and tasks, remain organized and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to influence others and win consensus.
