Job Summary
DTE Trust Investments manages over $11B in assets including US/Global equities, fixed income, multi-asset/hedge funds, and private markets (equity, credit, real estate). In addition to responsibility for the investment menu for DTE’s 401(k) plan, there are 5 primary pools of assets Trust Investments has discretionary responsibility for including: defined benefit pension trust, retiree healthcare trust (VEBA), nuclear decommissioning trust (NDT), executive benefit/rabbi trust, and DTE Energy Foundation Trust. This variety of asset pools with differing liability profiles provides exposure to the development and implementation of investment strategy for a wide range of investor types as a part of one team.
This position will significantly contribute to the strategic direction of the Trust Investments organization and the trust funds managed as well as be responsible for owning a segment of the portfolio (e.g. public markets or alternatives/private markets). Responsibilities will also include contributing to overall portfolio strategy including items such as asset allocation and risk management as well as opportunities for exposure to the operations behind the investment activities. Tasks are diversified, requiring strong analytical and technical skill and independent action is frequently required in assignments. This role involves some responsibility for guiding the workflow of others in the group and outside service providers. Span of Control: 0; Individual Contributor
Key Accountabilities
- Responsible for all aspects of investment including sourcing, underwriting, and ongoing monitoring for assigned asset classes including compliance with all policies regarding documentation of these activities.
- Participates in the determination of appropriate benchmarks for performance and risk measurement and leads evaluation of investment managers’ risk and returns against policy objectives and benchmarks. Includes recommendations for termination of managers when necessary.
- Leads legal reviews and negotiation of investment management agreements, contracts, and other documentation with the assistance of outside counsel.
- Performs periodic asset class reviews with assistance of external consultant and presents results to Investment Committee.
- Leads periodic Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for external service providers as necessary.
- Provides 401(k) investment menu oversight, co-manages the recordkeeper, and supports participant communications when required.
- Leads benchmarking activities (relative to other asset owners) including analysis of results to determine opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Proactively identifies and researches new strategic initiatives and investment opportunities.
- Maintains a network of asset owner peers and investment managers to enable best practice sharing and surface investment ideas.
- Prepares, presents, and defends compelling, well-reasoned recommendations to Senior Management and the Investment Committee chaired by the enterprise’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
- Independently leads special projects as needed.
- Guides workflow of others on the team in formal or informal leadership role.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in business-related or analytical / technical discipline and at least 5 years of experience in business/financial or quantitative analysis, inclusive of at least 3 years of related investment experience OR
• MBA and at least 3 years of experience in business/financial or quantitative analysis, inclusive of at least 3 years of related investment experience
• CFA/CAIA certification can count towards 2 years of investment experience

- MBA or other related advanced degree.
- CFA or CAIA designations, or progress towards designations.
- Experience managing investments as part of an asset manager or asset owner organization (Pension, Endowment, Foundation, Family Office, etc.).
- Experience working with PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
Other Qualifications
- Strong focus on continuous improvement, including desire to put in extra work so processes are more sustainable and error-free in the future .
- Fundamental understanding of finance and financial markets, general knowledge of Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), aspects of risk, and investment portfolio theory.
- Demonstrated proficiency in verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Interest in or experience with data science and/or relational databases.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- PC Proficiency, including experience with MS Office Products. Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
- Strong focus on continuous improvement.
- • Ability to travel for business purposes outside of the service area (Up to 10%)
