Key Accountabilities

  • Serve as a lead expert witness for accounting for Energy Waste Reduction filings before hte Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC), ensuring that all filings match general ledger postings and all positions of cases are well supported; prepare, complete, and accurate exhibits;
  • Build processes to account and pay for the fuel- or natural gas-fired electricity generation;
  • Provide supervision and oversight for all aspects of the assigned process;
  • Solve business and operating problems using recognized financial analysis techniques;
  • Prepare monthly accruals and ensure accurate and timely payments in accordance with contract terms and account reconciliations;
  • Conduct benchmarking studies and report monthly performance metrics;
  • Monitor work practices, utilizing continuous improvement and lean systems methodology

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field
  • Five years post-baccalaureate, progrssive experience in accounting, finance, or related area which must include testifying before MPSC as an expert witness; functional expertise in financial analysis or accounting; demonstrated ability to compile and analyze complex financial data; expertise in accounting for the procurement, transportation, storage, and balancing of natural gas; regulatory accounting experience
