Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary

    Responsible for the management, design, implementation, and administration of compensation programs, including base and variable pay programs such as incentives, special pay programs, etc. Consults with management on organization planning and decision-making regarding the most effective use of compensation, rewards and recognition resources. Partners with other HR disciplines to ensure HR products and services are integrated and aligned with business objectives. Provides one-on- one communication with management on information related to compensation. Span of control: 0; this is an individual contributor job.

Key Accountabilities

  • Analyzes and evaluates competitive market information and researches external labor market trends. Participates in market/salary surveys to collect competitive pay data; determine relevant markets and the validity of data collected.
  • Collects and analyzes job information to determine market rates.
  • Reviews, edits and prepares job descriptions; provides input to job design and makes salary structure recommendations.
  • Responsible for design, development, modeling, and costing of compensation programs.
  • Designs base pay, variable and special pay programs that support business needs, e.g., commission and retention plans.
  • Administers and leads various compensation processes, including incentive payments, job evaluation, annual base pay, and bonus cycles.
  • Develops, analyzes, and disseminates reports to appropriate levels within the organization.
  • Provides internal compensation consulting for HR and supports management-union pay negotiations.
  • Measures effectiveness of programs in terms of cost associated with recruiting and retaining qualified employees.
  • Ensures that the company's compensation programs comply with applicable regulations.
  • Participates in continuous improvement efforts within the compensation and/or benefit function; including the establishment of quality/quantity standards and metrics; documenting and sharing knowledge among applicable staff in a systematic fashion.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • Minimum: Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience in compensation design/administration

Other Qualifications

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or an HR-related discipline
  • CCP Certification

 

Other Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel
  • Working knowledge of appropriate HR regulations, e.g FLSA, etc
  • Well-developed organization and planning skills.
  • Flexibility and the ability to work with shifting priorities; embrace new/evolving responsibilities.
  • Analytical and problemsolving skills consistent with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives, and recommend optimal solutions for various situations.
  • Ability to apply project planning & implementation and/or continuous improvement principles to affect tangible, positive outcomes.
  • Competent in "multitasking" (i.e the ability to prioritize & manage multiple tasks, issues or projects that may include high-visibility initiatives and require innovation, teamwork & planning).
  • Written and verbal communication & advocacy skills consistent with the ability to present results of projects & research to all levels of the organization.
