Job Summary

Senior level engineer responsible for planning and conducting engineering activities focused on the development of standards. Requires the use of advanced techniques and the application of theories, precepts, practice and disciplines, including practical field experience. Incumbents have the responsibility and authority to make decisions on engineering problems and methods applicable to the resolution of important issues. Participates on and leads teams of field employees, technicians, engineers and other personnel.

Key Accountabilities

 

 

  • Mechanical, Architectural or Civil Engineering position to provide technical expertise to develop standards documentation, review current state of the industry and collaborate with other standards engineers. Typical work would include calculations, standards compliance and standardized layouts for all of the following:
    • Substation below grade (fill, grading, footings and foundations, conduit, etc)
    • Substation above grade including steel work and enclosures
    • Underground structure (conduit, manholes, vaults, padmount foundations)
    • Pole loading, pole top structures and pole footings/backfill, wood, steel, concrete and composite      structures
    • General soil stability, drainage, containment and grading for utility facilities
  • Develops, coordinates, and directs important projects or field engineering assignments with complex features.
  • Performs assigned (or initiates) engineering studies, proposing solutions to engineering-related problems; develops models and analyzes data to support improvement programs, techniques & solutions.
  • Interfaces with outside departments, vendors, suppliers, and reliability entities.
  • Develops or assists in presentations of engineering-related projects to all levels of management & external parties (contractors, customers, etc.).
  • Plans and manages group workflow to meet budgets and schedules.
  • May mentor and provide guidance/direction for less experienced staff.

 

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and a minimum of 4 years of job relevant experience

Other Qualifications

Preferred

  • Bachelor degree or higher in Architectural, Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
  • Utility experience in overhead structural calculations, substation below grade, and/or above grade standards calculations
  • Professional Engineer Certification (P.E.)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, primarily Excel and Word
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong time management, prioritization, and organization skills
  • Proficient communication and interpersonal skills
