Hybrid Role: This role is hybrid, with an established schedule of in-person work required at an assigned work location. Any remote work is expected to be performed from an employee’s primary residence, unless allowed (or prohibited) through the Company’s remote work guidelines.
Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.
Job Summary
Supervises 8 -15 employees for day-to-day planning and execution of construction projects performed by Company and contractor personnel. Responsible for ensuring projects are planned and built in accordance with Company standards, specifications, schedules and requirements, and yield maximum Return on Investment (ROI). Implements and drives changes necessary to ensure continuous improvement within the Processes and leads a single focused team or grouping of teams to meet the specific objectives of the Processes.
Key Accountabilities
- Supervises field personnel in their day-to-day activities. May supervise underground line crews, Substation Maintenance, Substation Operators and/or Planners in the design, construction, maintenance, emergency repair and/or operation of overhead and underground, or substation/station equipment.
- Resolves escalated construction project concerns and works with appropriate parties (contractors, customers, agencies, etc.) to determine project and scheduling solutions.
- Manages all aspects of work assigned so as to complete a quality job, on time, and within budget. Ensures that resources and workloads are balanced, ensuring that projects are appropriately planned, prioritized and executed.
- Assures and maintains personnel's adherence to work practices and procedures, safety rules and regulations, and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
- Represents Company in daily contacts with customers, developers, municipal and governmental officials, contractors and other utilities.
- Performs the following core leadership functions for a given group (s): planning, organizing, directing the performance of ongoing activities and special assignments, staffing (employee selection, training/coaching, and performance management), time-entry, coordinating resources, reporting and budgeting.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent and the knowledge/capabilities typically acquired through Six years of experience in at least one of the following:
- Construction, maintenance, operation and troubleshooting of overhead circuitry of underground systems as a journey-level line worker / cable splicer
- Electrical experience as a field worker in a utility
- Lead worker within a utility, large manufacturing or production facility; OR
- Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Construction Management, or Project Management and the knowledge/ capabilities typically acquired through Four years of experience in at least one of the following:
- Construction, maintenance, operation and troubleshooting of overhead circuitry Underground systems as a journey- level line worker / cable splicer
- Electrical experience as a field worker in a utility
- Lead worker in a utility, large manufacturing or production facility; OR
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Construction Management, or Project Management and the knowledge/ capabilities typically acquired through two years of experience in at least one of the following:
- Construction, maintenance, operation and troubleshooting of overhead circuitry or Underground systems as a journey- level line worker / cable splicer
- Electrical experience as a field worker in a utility
- Lead worker in an utility, large manufacturing or production facility

- Demonstrated ability to communicate well with others and proficient verbal, nonverbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills consistent with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives and recommend optimal solutions for various situations.
- Must be able to work shifts and extended periods of overtime, including on-call supervisory rotation.
- Must meet Company driving standards.
- Working knowledge of and the ability to administer the Union/Management labor agreements.
- Provides leadership through example in a unionized environment, consistent with prevailing collective bargaining agreements (typically based on experience in a unionized environment).
- In addition to normal job responsibilities, each employee must be willing to perform an emergency or storm assignment as needed.
- Working knowledge of EEO, safety, Company/Union/Management Partnership, employee development programs.
- Ability to understand and apply established job units
Preferred Qualifications:
- Red Tag Qualified
- Possess a Group "A" Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement or a Classified Endorsement Temporary Instruction Permit to operate a Group "A" vehicle with air brakes or an Ontario Class "A" License with a "Z" endorsement for air brakes.
- Experience with the Construction and commissioning of Recloser equipment.
