Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.
Job Summary
Responsible for the proactive outreach and education of associated hazards for groups that routinely work around company Gas systems. Incumbents in this position partner with excavators, contractors and other Gas field employees to mitigate potential damages to company assets. Span of control: 0; Individual Contributor.
Key Accountabilities
• Focuses on enhancing public safety and reducing asset damage of gas commodities.
• Identifies unsafe excavation practices in the field and counsels’ excavators, contractors and company crews to adhere to Miss Dig regulations.
• Proactively engages public safety agencies, excavators/contractors and representative associations to offer education and training on utility system hazards.
• Conducts training with public emergency first responders and excavators to promote safe work practices and compliance with Miss Dig regulations when working around company facilities.
• Provides guidance during third-party pre-construction meetings regarding safe excavation practices.
• Develops and makes presentations to small and large audiences.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
• High School diploma and 6 years of experience in natural gas field service, distribution, transmission, or operations; OR
• Bachelor's Degree in business or engineering and 2 years of experience in natural gas field service, distribution, transmission, or operations
Other Qualifications
Preferred:
• Knowledge of PA 174 (Miss Dig Law)
• Knowledge in fundamentals and hazards of natural gas, electricity and gas and electric safety procedures
• Experience with the electric storm process
Other Requirements:
• This position may include nights and weekend/holiday timeframes to respond to customer needs and emergent work situations.
• Must possess strong verbal, written and presentation skills and the ability to communicate clearly, with credibility and confidence to audiences both within and outside of the Company
• Must have a valid driver's license and meet company driving standards
• Must possess analytical and problem solving skills consistent with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives, and recommend optimal solutions for various situations
• Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
• Must have the ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions
• Must be self-starting and able to manage multiple work assignments
• Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality
