Job Summary



This position is responsible for the general management and coordination of DTE Gas Storage and Pipeline (GSP) Supply Chain Management organization including purchasing, logistics and storeroom/inventory functions. By design, these activities will cross organizational boundaries. This position will manage and direct the activities of the Purchasing and Inventory Control employees and will have a direct reporting relationship to the Corporate Senior Supply Chain Manager. Work involves performing difficult and complex services requiring a high level of independent judgement, initiative and discretion. Work is mainly self-directed, with work results reviewed through the achievement of set goals and adherence to policies and procedures.

Key Accountabilities
  • Provides general management and administration of purchasing, logistics, and inventory control functions.
  • Provides mentoring, training, and direction to Category Managers, Strategic Buyers, Tactical Buyers and inventory management and control employees
  • Cultivates and builds internal and external alliances and partnerships with business unit and suppliers.
  • Establish a positive work environment through implementation of a strong culture of employee engagement and accountability
  • Participates in corporate level supply chain activities as necessary
  • Encourages the use of preferred suppliers and established catalogs
  • Improves the value of goods and services purchased through supplier selection, volume discounts, value engineering and negotiations. Reduces delivered costs of goods through management of freight costs
  • Establishes positive relationships between end users and suppliers
  • Participates in development, implementation and maintenance of policies, objectives, short and long-range planning; develops and implements projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals.
  • Assists business unit o plan, develop, recommend, negotiate and administer contracts and proposals; helps evaluate and award bids and proposals including reviewing contract terms and conditions and insurance certificates for all contractor services
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Accounting, Finance, Construction, Engineering or a closely related major field of study
  • 10 years of experience in purchasing or materials management, or construction related activities and five years of experience managing employees
Other Qualifications



  • Master’s degree
  • Experience in the implementation and use of an automated Enterprise Business System; experience with SAP would be considered a plus
  • Proficient in the application of purchasing principles, theories and concepts
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
