Assistant Plant Manager

Location: Lansing, Michigan

Job Summary

 

The Assistant Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing, managing and directing the day to day operation and maintenance activities within the Utility Assets, including the Central Utility Complex (powerhouse) as well as managing the operation and maintenance associated with other energy related assets (Chillers, Boilers, Air Compressors, Cooling towers, Electrical Distribution, Air Handling Units, HVAC, High Bay Lighting, Weld Water Systems, Waste Water Systems, etc.) located throughout the automotive manufacturing facility. The Assistant Plant Manager provides direction to the workforce ensuring that utility assets are operated in a safe, efficient, reliable, environmentally responsible manner at all times, meeting the energy requirements of the client. This position will be the on-site representative of the Company and will act as the liaison between the Company and the client.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

  • The Assistant Plant Manager reports directly to the plant manager.
  • The Assistant Plant Manager provides direction to the workforce ensuring that the utility assets are operated in a safe, efficient, reliable, environmentally responsible manner at all times, meeting the energy requirements of the client. This position will be the on-site representative of the Company and will act as the liaison between the Company and the client.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

 

Candidates must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and administration of utility systems described above.

 

Other Qualifications

Preferred:

Experience with chillers, boilers, air compressors, and supervision of unionized labor is a plus. Knowledge and experience gained within a large automotive manufacturing plant is a plus and an engineering degree is desired but not required.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Candidates must demonstrate an ability to understand and administer complex commercial agreements relating to the production of energy and the provision of reliable energy services to a client on a 24 hour per day, 7-day per week basis
  • Candidate must be proficient in performing administrative functions such as reporting, purchasing, and time entry in SAP.
  • Candidates must be proficient in Excel and Outlook (or other e-mail management applications).
  • Ability to function within a matrix organization in which functional and business leaders have equal authority within the organization and employees report to both a functional leader and a business leader.
  • Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with both a function and business leader, who collaborate on employee issues and decisions (including performance management, compensation, and development).

Vision requirements for this position include close, distance and peripheral vision, along with depth perception.

The employee performs job duties in a field office or manufacturing site, with a loud noise level.
