Operations & Maintenance Technician

 

Location: Marietta, OH

 

Job Summary

 

This position is responsible for initial start-up, operation, monitoring, and performing routine maintenance, in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, on all equipment located within the co-generation facility in Marietta OH. The O&M Technician will operate and maintain gas turbine, steam boilers and all associated plant equipment. Work is performed both independently and under direct supervision of plant manager or lead operator with results reviewed through the achievement of set goals and adherence to policies and procedures.

 

The O&M Technician will be responsible for the preventative, corrective and overall maintenance of all facility systems and associated plant equipment to assure the plant is operated in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Complies with all site safety requirements and procedures. Identifies safety hazards and takes corrective action as necessary.
  • Ensures contract requirements and plant efficiency are maintained, and local, state, and federal safety and operational environmental standards are met.
  • Maintain and implement key metrics monitoring to evaluate and ensure facility systems and equipment are operating in the most efficient manner.
  • Conducts contractor and visitor safety orientations and facilitates pre job briefs to ensure worker safety and DTE policies and procedures are followed.
  • Play an active role on the site safety committee.
  • Supports plant and business goals, including Employee Safety Initiative (ESI’s). Maintain, develop, and ensure all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) are correct and up to date.
  • Makes recommendations on operational process improvements and ensures that operating personnel are properly trained and adhere to established procedures and standards in accordance with prudent industry practices.
  • Investigates operating abnormalities and incidents to improve equipment availability and performance.
  • Investigate and assist in the preparation of “RCA / Event Reports” in a timely manner on all forced outages, situations and events that require reporting, or as directed.
  • Continuously evaluates the operating and maintenance processes and makes recommendations to senior management relative to optimizing O&M cost effectiveness, work quality, outage time, and budgets.
  • Recommends and assists in the scheduling of and supervises the performance of overhauls of plant equipment and systems by outside contractors and/or plant staff.
  • Maximizes plant efficiency without compromising personnel and equipment safety, environmental compliance, or the long-term commercial viability of the facility.
  • Available for shift coverage and is expected to respond to off-hour call-ins.
  • All other tasks assigned.

 

 

 

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

 

  • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A minimum five (5) years of operational and maintenance experience.
  • Currently hold an OHIO 3rd class Stationary/Operating Engineer or high or have fulfilled the requirements to obtain a 3rd class Stationary/Operating Engineer license within 12 months of the date of hire.

 

Other Qualifications Preferred

 

  • I&C experience strongly desired.

 

Other Requirements

 

  • Thorough, demonstrated understanding of plant operations. Strong understanding of Gas Turbine, Steam, Water Treatment (RO), DCS, and PLC technology. Mechanics, Hydraulics, Electricity and Electronics.
  • Working knowledge of operations and engineering functions and their interrelation to maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Understanding of accounting systems as relates to work orders, PM’s, and spare parts inventories.
  • Competent computer skills, especially Microsoft Office products; Excel, and Word.
  • Solid knowledge of plant engineering and plant maintenance functions and how they relate to operations.
  • Demonstrated skill in planning, coordinating, and directing varied programs and tasks directly effecting the overall plant operation.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Technical training and demonstrated ability to perform successfully in similar work environments preferred.
  • Ability to comprehend and apply technical information, including mechanical and electrical drawings (such as blueprints, P&IDs, single-line diagrams and schematics) to problem-solving situations and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate work on technical subjects with others across job families and with outside vendors.

The employee in this classification will be required to frequently lift objects of up to 25 pounds in weight.  Occasionally the employee will have to lift or move objects of up to 50 pounds in weight.  In addition, the employee will push or pull up to 75 pounds in weight occasionally.

 

Vision requirements for this position include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works both in a plant environment. In the course of working at the plant site, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, works near moving mechanical parts and/or machinery. The employee is occasionally exposed fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may become loud at the plant site requiring hearing protection.
