Safety Internship

 

Location: MORGANTOWN, WEST VIRGINIA or NEW MILFORD, PENNSYLVANIA

 

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Supervisor of Safety & Industrial Hygiene, this position assists in developing, implementing, coordinating and analyzing results and effectiveness of the safety program. The objective is to prevent personal injury, property and equipment damage and maintain employee health.

 

PRINICIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety Interns are involved analyzing written procedures, performing housekeeping and safety audits, making observations, making recommendations to remediate hazards and unsafe conditions, assist in investigating injuries and near miss incidents, and assist in providing guidance to comply with plant and Federal standards.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s of Science degree in Occupational Safety or similar from an ABET accredited university.  Must have completed at least 2 years of coursework toward a Safety degree.

  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Be proficient with appropriate computer software applications
  • Skills to analyze the process and conditions and determine any changes are required to improve safety
  • Ability to function within a matrix organization in which functional and business leaders have equal authority within the organization and employees report to both a functional leader and a business leader

The employee in this classification will be required to occasionally lift objects of up to 25 pounds in weight.

Vision requirements for this position include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The employee will occasionally be exposed to conditions of: working near moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibrations.

The employee will be working in an environment up to a moderate sound level.
