Testing Required:

Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

 

Job Summary

Oversees the design and execution of the nuclear safety and human performance program to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and the Company’s safety standards. Assesses nuclear safety performance and inspections. Works with vendors and provides direction to staff on safety training and related initiatives. Span of control: Small team of individual contributors and oversight of matrixed health and safety support staff.
 

Key Accountabilities

•Develops and executes nuclear safety, human performance, health and regulatory compliance training programs that ensure a healthy nuclear safety culture
•Ensures compliance with federal and state safety-related laws and stays current with industry safety and human performance practices and trends
•Advises management on all matters related to nuclear safety and human performance and maintains effective relationships with external oversight and regulatory agencies
•Serves as the subject matter expert for all operating event reviews and causal evaluations to ensure all safety related human performance issues are identified and addressed
•Assesses nuclear safety performance and inspection procedures for nuclear safety inspections and ensures appropriate metrics are in place to identify trends
•Identifies and develops performance trends through utilization of corrective action documentation, event reports, incident reports, and other applicable source documents, including developing long term plans for Human Performance within the organization to address forecasted gaps based on future looking indicators
•Coordinates daily activities of site contract medical services
•Ensures the accomplishment of the following core supervisory/management functions for a given group(s) within a business unit: planning, organizing, directing the performance of on-going activities and/or special/ad hoc assignments, staffing (employee selections, training, coaching and performance management, time entry), coordinating, reporting and budgeting
•Leads the continuous improvement commitment and efforts for team, including designing processes, establishing quality and quantity standards and metrics, collecting, refining, adapting, and communicating best practices, sharing knowledge, and developing staff in a systematic fashion; uses process design outcomes to solve problems
 

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

This is a multi-track base requirement job; education and experience requirements can be satisfied through one of the following three options:
 

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of experience in a utility, industrial, or manufacturing operation where human performance and safety or safety compliance was a significant area of responsibility, inclusive of two years of experience leading projects and/or managing others. ; OR
  • Associate’s degree and 9 years of experience in a utility, industrial, or manufacturing operation where human performance and safety or safety compliance was a significant area of responsibility, inclusive of two years of experience leading projects and/or managing others.; OR
  • High school diploma or GED and 11 years of experience in a utility, industrial, or manufacturing operation where human performance and safety or safety compliance was a significant area of responsibility, inclusive of two years of experience leading projects and/or managing others.;

Other Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Nuclear experience
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspector certification
  • Certification as a Safety Professional or Administrator by a national recognized safety organization


Other Requirements:
•Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Microsoft Excel and Power Point)
•Strong organizational skills
•Ability to coordinate deadlines and logistics to successfully lead work processes within an agreed upon time frame
•Ability to balance multiple demands from leaders, subordinates, and peers in a positive and even-handed manner and display calm demeanor under pressure
