Nuclear QA Auditor  

Role: Nuclear QA Auditor – All Levels 

Job Summary 

Leads and assists in the performance of independent internal audits of departments involved in nuclear 

safety, such as maintenance, operations, engineering, radiation protection and selected other activities. Leads and assists in the performance of external audits of vendor / contractor QA/QC programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Reviews documents, prepares checklists and agendas for audits, performs audits, conducts pre and post audit interviews and prepares final audit reports. Ensures and documents that corrective actions are taken based on report findings. Performs surveillances, assessments, observations, and other assignments as directed by supervision. Maintains and updates the Approved Suppliers List as required to support plant needs. 

 

Key Accountabilities

Senior Nuclear QA Auditor:

  • Assists the Principal Supervisor, Nuclear Quality Assurance (Audits) in the implementation of the Quality Assurance Audits program at Fermi
  •  Maintains Lead Auditor qualification (ANSI N45.2.23, 1978) and leads / assists audit teams in the assessment of quality programs of Fermi organizations and vendor facilities. Participates in peer evaluations at other utilities.
  • Maintains Lead Auditor qualification in NUPIC and/or NEI.
  • Maintains and updates the Approved Suppliers List as required to support plant needs
  • Participates on or leads NIEP Evaluations at other utilities.
  • Coordinates with other utilities to optimize use of the company's resources in the vendor assessment area.
  • Evaluates the quality of implementation of technical programs, the effectiveness of corrective actions and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Writes various management reports based on results of audit, surveillance or assessment activities.

Nuclear QA Auditor:

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

Senior Nuclear QA Auditor:

  • Must have completed a minimum of two Auditor Initial/Re-Certifications in the previous 2 years AND
  • Must have a bachelor's degree or SRO license/certification plus 5 years nuclear experience, OR an associate degree plus 7 years nuclear experience, OR High School Diploma plus 9 years nuclear experience.
  • Must be certified Fermi 2 Audit Team Lead (ANSI N45.2.23, 1978)
  • Must be certified at Least Audit Team Member with NUPIC or NEI
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of 10CFR50 Appendix B requirements
  • Regulatory Qualifications:
  • Shall have verifiable evidence of a minimum of 10 credits under the following scoring system:
  • Education: (4 credits maximum).Associate Degree from an accredited institution score 1 credit, or, if the degree is an engineering, physical sciences, mathematics or quality assurance, score 2 credits, or, Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution score 2 credits, or, if the degree is in engineering, physical sciences, mathematics or quality assurance, score 3 credits; In addition, score 1 credit for masters degree in engineering, physical sciences, business management or quality assurance from an accredited institution.
  • Experience (9 Credits maximum). Technical experience in engineering, manufacturing, construction, operation, or maintenance, score 1 point credit for each full year with a maximum of 5 credits for this aspect of experience. If 2 or more years of experience have been in the nuclear
  • field, score 1 additional credit, or, if 2 or more years of this experience have been in quality assurance, score 2 credits, or, if 2 or more years of this experience have been in auditing, score 3 additional credits, or, if 2 or more years of this experience have been in nuclear quality assurance auditing, score 4 additional credits.
  • Other credentials of Professional Competence (2 credits maximum). Certification of competency in engineering, science or quality specialties issued and approved by a State Agency, or National Professional, or Technical Society, score 2 credits.
  • Rights Management (2 credits maximum). The Lead Auditor's employer may grant up to 2 credits for other performance factors applicable to auditing which may not be explicitly explained in ANSI/ASME N45.2.2. Examples of these factors are leadership, sound judgment, maturity, analytical ability, tenacity, past performance, QA Training courses.

Nuclear QA Auditor:

  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree or SRO license/certification plus 3 years commercial nuclear power plant experience, or completion of an Associate's Degree plus 5 years commercial nuclear power plant experience, or High School Graduate plus 9 years commercial nuclear power plant experience.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of 10CFR50 Appendix B requirements.
  • Please Note: Must meet the criteria below at time of hire or be able to meet the criteria below within 18-24 months from hire date:

  • Prior nuclear plant line organization experience in operations, engineering, maintenance, support or radiation protection
  • Completion of a Systems Training course or equivalent

Nuclear QA Auditor:

  • Current or prior ANSI N45.2.23 Lead Auditor Certification
  • Current or prior ANSI N45.2.6 Inspector Certification
  • Prior nuclear plan line organization experience in operations, engineering, maintenance, support or radiation protection


Other Requirements

  • Must be able to pass all phases of In-Processing including background investigation, psychological screening, orientation, radiation worker/respiratory training and be medically certifable (drug and alcohol).

  • Works a shift schedule as required to meet plant needs.
  • May be assigned to maintain a position on the Fermi Emergency Response Organization ERO in support of the Radiological Emergency Response Plan RERP.
  • Is attentive to detail and accuracy, is committed to excellence, looks for improvements continuously, monitors quality levels, finds root cause of quality problems, own/acts on quality problems.
