Job Summary

Supervises projects, activities and professional/technical employees to support Nuclear Generation Chemistry for full compliance with federal, state and local regulatory requirements and company and business unit strategic objectives. Applies engineering standards/procedures and provides advice on issues within the chemistry discipline. Ensures company policies, standards, and procedures are applied in the implementation of chemistry activities and projects. Identifies and drives changes necessary to ensure continuous improvement and attainment of performance measures. Span of control: 6-10 FTEs.

Key Accountabilities

  • Analyzes data, trends, reports, and resources related to the assigned program area and provides recommendations for positions, policies, strategies, and goals/objectives for site management
  • Assures compliance with federal and state regulations (e.g., Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Transportation (DOT), Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), etc.) and company/site programs and license requirements, including policies, practices, and records retention
  • Evaluates work group performance against key program and applicable site performance indicators and analyzes internal processes and plans to formulate and guide the development and implementation of process improvements or corrective actions to resolve identified deficiencies
  • Manages and controls costs and staffing within approved budgets, directs activities to minimize waste and inefficiencies, and promotes opportunities to maximize continuous improvement
  • Monitors industry issues and benchmarks to minimize the impact of emergent issues or evolving standards
  • Promotes teamwork by representing work group as interface with other site groups to coordinate, monitor, and support the cooperative accomplishment of site activities, initiatives or the joint resolution of plant problems
  • Supports the achievement of company, plant, and personnel safety and environmental goals
  • Ensures the accomplishment of the following core supervisory/management functions for a given group(s) within a business unit: planning, organizing, directing the performance of on-going activities and/or special/ad hoc assignments, staffing (employee selections, training, coaching and performance management, time entry), coordinating, reporting and budgeting
  • Leads the continuous improvement commitment and efforts for team, including designing processes, establishing quality and quantity standards and metrics, collecting, refining, adapting, and communicating best practices, sharing knowledge, and developing staff in a systematic fashion; uses process design outcomes to solve problems

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

This is a dual-track base requirement job; education and experience requirements can be satisfied through one of the following two options:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemistry, engineering technology, physics, or mathematics with 7 years of job relevant experience, OR
  • High school diploma and 11 years of job relevant experience
