Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary

    Apply technical knowledge of Chemistry/Environmental/Radiation Protection/Radwaste Program to: monitor and assess performance, anticipate problems, analyze issues, develop and recommend solutions, or propose ideas for improvements or innovating new methods or practices that will assure program regulatory compliance, the achievement of defined performance measures and the safe and reliable operation, maintenance and refueling of Fermi 2 involving customer service and support of over 1000 to as many as 2000 personnel during an outage.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assess the quality and implementation of technical programs compared to industry best practices and lessons learned, and formulate recommendations for continuous improvements that will improve the effectiveness, efficiency or safety of work processes and practices in the respective program area.
  • Develop ideas and materials that improve existing work methods, services or outcomes and promote the accomplishment of ALARA, error-free quality and environmentally compliant results.
  • Investigate technical problems, evaluate data collected applying specialized technical expertise, determine causes and recommend solutions.
  • Maintain cognizance of nuclear industry standards and practices, and represent department and Fermi 2 on industry task forces or committees, as assigned
  • Maintain technical expertise through training, self study and professional development activities
  • Provide technical consulting within discipline of expertise, to personnel at all levels, by serving on committees, task forces or solution teams and conferring/collaborating with employees, supervision and management.
  • Research, gather data, and compile and assemble special reports/self- assessments, working within the constraints for confidentiality and safeguarding of information.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • Associate's degree
  • Eight years direct involvement in particular discipline Rad Protection/Health Physics, Environmental Health/Chemistry or four years of experience if completed specialized training or possess related licenses or certifications.
  • Training and/or education in Radiation Protection, Health Physics, Environmental Health, Chemistry discipline, cause analysis/problem solving, human performance techniques, self-assessment, continuous improvement
  • Six years of work experience in nuclear industry; or a minimum of ten years of nuclear industry experience without degree.

  • Approach others tactfully and considerately; work well in groups; help resolve conflicts.
  • Proficient in identifying and solving problems and overcoming barriers to process or performance improvements.
  • Responds to requests for consultation and assistance
  • Capable of project management and coordination.
  • Knowledgeable of Nuclear power plant operations and computerized applications and software programs
