DTE Biomass Energy (DTEBE) develops, owns and operates landfill gas recovery systems throughout the United States.  As a leader in landfill gas recovery, with more than 20 operating facilities stretching from New York to California, we have the proven capabilities to help provide communities with safe, environmentally sound energy.  Headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, DTE Biomass Energy is a wholly owned subsidiary of DTE Energy.  DTEBE has an immediate opening at (the facility below).


Calumet Renewables, LLC contains several renewable natural gas facilities in Manitowoc and Kewaunee Counties in WI. The plants produce RNG by pulling dairy digester gas, cleaning the gas by removing H2S, Oxygen, CO2 and water and compress the gas to inject into the pipeline. Maintenance of equipment includes screw and reciprocating compressors, membrane cleaning system, natural gas dryer, flare, thermal oxidizers, chromatographs and flow meters.



Job Summary

Home location is flexible, office at processing facilities located in Newton and Sun Prairie. Additional sites located in Grand Marsh, Rosendale, and in Kewaunee County.

This position is responsible for managing all operating aspects of a portfolio of dairy anaerobic digestion to Renewable Natural Gas facilities including safety, environmental compliance, profitability, personnel management, project management, public relations, and contract compliance.   These facilities process anaerobic digester gas and remove impurities and contaminants from the biogas stream producing a pipeline quality natural gas product (RNG).  This RNG is compressed and trucked to a company owned facility where it is offloaded and ultimately injected into a natural gas pipeline.  This position will report to the Operations Director for DTE Biomass Energy. 

Key Accountabilities


  • Create realistic operating and capital budgets, and meet or exceed budgets
  • Support business development by providing technical expertise and operational insight
  • Create and sustain a strong safety culture that consistently values employee safety over production
  • Ensure data integrity and confirm all data/documentation required for state and federal program compliance supports successful validation audits
  • Pro-actively identify and prevent environmental permit exceedances
  • Manage a team of highly talented and engaged individuals capable of running sites without day to day guidance
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts to improve profitability, safety, and environmental compliance
  • Manage a positive collaborative relationship with customers, farm host, the public, and regulators
  • Conduct ad-hoc financial analysis, engineering analysis, contract reviews, and public relations presentations
  • Work with industry trade groups and other ROM’s to move the entire industry forward
  • Make concise, well-thought recommendations to senior management
  • Project and manage small plant capital optimization and efficiency projects


Minimum Education & Experience Requirements


Education and experience requirements can be satisfied through one of the following options:


  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, and the knowledge and capabilities typically acquired through at least five year of technical related experience.
  • Associate degree or industry-recognized certificate (i.e. the completion of a core group of courses designated by the institution) in a job-relevant discipline, and​​​​​​​ the knowledge and capabilities typically acquired through at least three years of technical experience, or;
  • High School diploma and knowledge and capabilities typically acquired through at least ten years of related technical experience.


Other Qualifications

  • Safety Background/Understanding – Understanding of OSHA requirements, developing a good safety culture, and implementing safety improvements
  • Experience with dairy farms, gas processing equipment and anaerobic digesters is strongly preferred
  • Strong industrial skill set – electrical troubleshooting, PLC knowledge, screw compressor maintenance and operations, flow meter operations, valves, pumps, breakers, etc.
  • Strong administrative skills – budgeting, Microsoft Office, forecasting, managing vendors
  • Strong logistical skills – truck dispatching, bill of laden creation, inventory management, maintenance planning
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to maintain a good relationship with the dairy host, the community, management and employees
  • Experience with budgeting, construction, and commercial agreements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Display a professional demeanor at all times
  • Ability to efficiently handle competing priorities and tasks
  • Willingness to work outside of normal work hours as necessary to assist with 24-7 operations
