Testing Required:

Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary

Operational leadership program designed to develop the requisite technical knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform as a leader within DTE Energy’s electric distribution operations.  Incumbents are responsible for leading a team of professional office and/or field personnel from varying areas of the organization, including overhead and underground lines, warehousing operations, substations, and/or electric field operations.  Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable policies, procedures or standard work instructions (SWIs), and recommending change consistent with the principles of continuous improvement (CI).  This position is a developmental role for leaders, with the intent of providing incumbents the necessary skillset to be progressed to the applicable supervisory role within electric distribution operations.

 

Span of control: approximately 4 jobs and 6-10 FTEs (direct)

Key Accountabilities

  • With the support and guidance of the respective leadership, supervises office and/or field personnel across multiple areas within electric distribution operations.
  • Interprets data, identifies trends, conducts root cause analysis, and assists with benchmarking studies to determine improvement opportunities.
  • Assures and maintains personnel's adherence to work practices and procedures, safety rules and regulations, and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
  • Represents the Company in daily contacts with customers, developers, municipal and governmental officials, and other utilities.
  • Leads CI efforts for assigned group(s); may design processes; establish quality/quantity standards and metrics; collect, refine, adapt and communicate best practices; share knowledge and develop staff in a systematic fashion. Uses process design outcomes to solve problems.
  • Performs or ensures the accomplishment of the following core supervisory/management functions for assigned group(s):  planning, organizing, directing the performance of ongoing activities and special assignments, staffing (employee selection, training/coaching and performance management), time-entry, coordinating, reporting and budgeting.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 3 years of supervisory and/or lead worker experience. (e.g. utility, office, manufacturing, production, or related military)

  • Ability to travel and report to work at different locations within the Company's service area.  Incumbents are responsible for their own transportation, must maintain valid licenses required for their operations of any Company vehicles/equipment and comply with applicable Company driving/operating standards.
  • Ability to work flexible hours (days, afternoons and nights, weekends, and rotating schedules)
