Job Summary

Location: Sterling Heights, MI

This position is responsible for overseeing, managing, and directing the day-to-day operations and maintenance activities for the utility and energy-related assets located within a central utility complex at Stellantis’ Sterling Heights Stamping Plant (SHSP).

Assets include (8) Low Pressure Air Compressors (90 PSI both Centrifugal and Reciprocating) with a total capacity of 35,000 CFM; (8) High Pressure Air Compressors (170 PSI Rotary Screw) with a total capacity of 2,900 CFM; (43) Roof Top Air Handling Units (gas-fired); Lighting and Electrical Distribution Systems; (1) Seasonal Low Pressure Firetube Boiler (12 PSI); Weld Water System; Wastewater Treatment System capable of processing 80 kgal/day of Industrial Waste; and (6) Cooling Towers that support several of these systems.

Utility systems and powerhouse infrastructure experience is required, particularly in the competitive, non-regulated energy market. Experience supervising unionized labor is important. Work involves performing difficult and complex services requiring a high level of independent judgment, initiative, and discretion. Work is mainly self-directed, with work results reviewed through the achievement of set goals and adherence to policies and procedures.

This position reports to the Plant Manager (DTE Energy Center Utility Services Manager).

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure that the Company-owned utility assets are operated in a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible manner while satisfying the utility and energy requirements of the Customer (Stellantis)
  • Supervise and direct the daily activities of all plant personnel, including an hourly, unionized workforce consisting of 4 Stationary Engineers and 7 operators and skilled trades personnel, all of whom are Stellantis employees
  • Understand and adhere to all commercial and contractual obligations
  • Act as the onsite liaison between the Company and the Customer
  • Ensure that all financial goals are met
  • Develop and manage annual O&M budget and cost-savings measures
  • Manage site purchasing and inventory control processes
  • Manage employee time entry and work schedules
  • Develop and lead continuous improvement activities
  • Prepare and issue weekly and monthly reports in a timely, consistent manner
  • Support the development and implementation of all Onsite Energy Business Unit initiatives and best practices
  • Develop and maintain a close working relationship with key customer personnel
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. A technical school degree is preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of eight (8) or more years of experience in the operation, maintenance and administration of powerhouses, utility systems or similar plant assets
  • Must demonstrate an ability to understand and administer complex commercial agreements related to delivering reliable energy services to the Customer on a 24 hour per day, 7 day per week basis
  • An understanding of the operation and maintenance of plant equipment, including the importance of ensuring high availability, reliability, and efficiency
  • Working knowledge of powerhouse equipment and systems, including but not limited to Air Compressors, Boilers, Wastewater Treatment Systems, Roof Top AHU’s, Electrical Distribution, Heat Exchangers, Cooling Towers, Transformers, Pumps, Motors, Piping/Valves, Instrumentation, etc.
  • An understanding of energy efficiency practices and energy conservation techniques
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Ability to develop and manage operating and maintenance budgets
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • Capable of working alone or as part of a team without a significant level of supervision
  • Ability to balance time and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Capable of promoting and maintaining strong, positive relationships with coworkers, suppliers, contractors, vendors, and customers
  • Willingness to share expertise and knowledge with other team members for the benefit of the entire Onsite Energy Business Unit

  • The employee performs job duties in a field office shared by other site personnel and in an industrial manufacturing site with a loud noise level
