Job Summary

Location: Stockton and Woodland, CA

This position supports two solid fuels power plant sites, one in Stockton, CA and one in Woodland, CA. The role splits their time between the two sites.

This position will support the implementation and oversight of safety programs and policies, as well as maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local health and safety regulations. Expertise in training, auditing, and hazard identification and control are required. The position reports to the Assistant Plant Manager, with functional reporting to the corporate Safety department.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop, administer, and maintain safety programs, policies, and procedures
  • Create and deliver safety-related reports and presentations
  • Develop and present safety training and educational programs
  • Conduct audits to ensure compliance with regulations and adherence to company expectations
  • Provide leadership and direction in implementation of proactive safety activities
  • Interface with regulatory agencies and outside vendors as necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Monitor regulatory process to identify future applicable regulations and their impact on operations
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety (or a related field) and three years practical experience in the field of safety; or an Associate's degree in occupational safety (or a related field) and five years practical experience in the field of safety; or a high school diploma or equivalent and seven years practical experience in the field of safety.

  • Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with both a business and functional leader, who collaborate on issues and decisions

  • Occasionally stand or walk and stoop or kneel. Frequently, the employee is required to sit

  • Frequently lift objects of up to 10 pounds in weight
  • Occasionally, the employee will have to lift/move objects of up to 25 pounds in weight
  • Vision requirements for this position include close vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

 
Additional physical requirements for this position are: ability to climb ladders up to 20 feet in height, ability to climb stairs up to 5 flights at a time, ability to wear negative-pressure respirators for up to 2 hours a day, ability to perform light work in hot environments (100 degrees F) for up to 6 hour/day, ability to wear protective equipment (including, but not limited to hearing protection, hard hat, safety boots, safety glasses or goggles, FR/AR clothing, gloves) for up to 8 hours/day, ability to work in a noisy environment (with hearing protection), ability to walk/stand (with occasional breaks) for up to 7 hours/day, ability to work at heights (protected by guardrails and/or personal fall arrest equipment), ability to work in an environment with exposures to magnetic and/or electrical fields, wood dust, coal dust, coke oven emissions, organic vapors, and/or metal fumes (all within OSHA limits).


While performing the duties of this job, the employee works both in a business office setting and at a project site. While working at the project site, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, including cold/hot, wet and/or humid conditions, and may work near moving mechanical parts and/or machinery. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration (see physical requirements above). The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in the office, but may become loud at the project site.
