Testing Required: Lineman Hands-On Skills Demonstration

 

Job Summary

Under indirect and intermittent supervision of Management and the work direction of a Crew Leader performs line construction work, line maintenance, betterment, and operating work. Climbs and works from wood poles, steel towers, and buckets, extension, or step ladders. Within the limits of established practices and stringent prescribed safety procedures, works on energized and de-energized equipment. Uses related tools and equipment. As assigned, drives, and operates commercial vehicles. Assists in the training and evaluation of apprentice linemen and as required performs work of a groundman.

Key Accountabilities

  • Performs line construction work which involves the erection of poles and towers and the assembly and attachment of related line hardware and equipment such as cross arms, braces, tower steel, guys, platforms, transformers insulators, voltage regulators, switches, reclosures, capacitors, fuse carriers, lightning arrestors, street lighting and outdoor protective lighting hardware, and conductors of various sizes, etc. Present voltages consist of transmission (120 and 345 KV), sub-transmission (24-40KV), primary distribution (4.8-13.2 KV), and various secondary distribution voltages. Delta and Wye.
  • Subject to work during off hours when necessary for efficient progress of the job or in case of emergency.
  • Records, executes, and reports back on work orders issued by Central System Supervisor, System Operation and peers, Dispatch and Report Center or a Dispatcher Organizer on routine and emergency work, as required.
  • Operates reclosers, sectionalizes, sectionalizing devises, including replacing fuses with a hot stick. Operates pole top switches, as required.
  • Performs work of Groundman as required, along with other related work as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Work Experience Required:  5 years of work experience, including apprenticeship
  • Education: High School Diploma/GED, Electrical Theory equal to approximately one credit month
  • Must be physically able to lift and handle up to 90 pounds.
  • Hand, eye, and foot coordination to climb wood poles approximately 90’ or higher using Lineman’s climbers and/or climb steel towers to approximately 300’ or higher.
  • Must have the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Meet Company driving standards. Must possess, or obtain prior to transfer date, a Group “A” Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement or a Classified Endorsement Temporary instruction permit to operate a Group “A” vehicle with air brakes.
  • Must receive a "recommended" on the Lineman Hands-On Skills Demonstration.
